Alliander Technographics, Software Purchases, AI and Digital Transformation Initiatives
Discover the latest software purchases and digital transformation initiatives being undertaken by Alliander and its business and technology executives. Each quarter our research team identifies on-prem and cloud applications that are being used by the 5991 Alliander employees from the public (Press Releases, Customer References, Testimonials, Case Studies and Success Stories) and proprietary sources.
During our research, we have identified that Alliander has purchased the following applications: SAP S/4 HANA for ERP Financial in 2021, Workday Absence Management for Absence and Leave Management in 2017, Hyland Perceptive Process (ex BPMone) for Business Process Management in 2014 and the related IT decision-makers and key stakeholders.
Our database provides customer insight and contextual information on which enterprise applications and software systems Alliander is running and its propensity to invest more and deepen its relationship with SAP , Workday , ADP or identify new suppliers as part of their overall Digital and IT transformation projects to stay competitive, fend off threats from disruptive forces, or comply with internal mandates to improve overall enterprise efficiency.
We have been analyzing Alliander revenues, which have grown to $2.33 billion in 2024, plus its IT budget and roadmap, cloud software purchases, aggregating massive amounts of data points that form the basis of our forecast assumptions for Alliander intention to invest in emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Blockchain, Autonomous Database or in cloud-based ERP, HCM, CRM, EPM, Procurement or Treasury applications.

| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2021 | 2022 |
In 2021, Alliander implemented SAP S/4 HANA using a Central Finance first approach as part of a Simplification program to move from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to a standard S/4HANA environment, aligned with the ERP Financial category. The project was framed as Explore through Deploy and Run, with discovery completed in late 2020 and realization concentrated in 2021 to accelerate the finance landscape toward a unified SAP S/4 HANA foundation.
The implementation centered on Central Finance and Group Reporting as the Minimal Viable Product, built on a new financial data model and a new chart of accounts. Fit-2-Standard workshops drove configuration, with SAP Best Practice scope items used as the baseline, and processes for intercompany coordination, period closing, outgoing payments and consolidation validated as almost 100 percent fit to standard SAP. Where standard functionality showed limitations, selective BADIs were activated, for example to support sales orders as a classification object.
Technically the rollout used real-time data replication from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 into the SAP S/4 HANA Central Finance instance, with standard replication scenarios already operational in test during the Realize phase. The go-ahead from a successful GAT in January enabled an initial mass data transfer during the weekend of 25 and 26 February, moving transactional history for 47 SAP legal entities, totaling more than 12 million financial documents, and establishing ongoing real-time replication into the S/4HANA landscape. Group Reporting was implemented with an Alliander specific Data Monitor and Consolidation Monitor, and integration work included loading remaining months into Group Reporting and connecting with the current consolidation tool.
Project governance followed an agile scrum model with three week sprints and end of sprint review demos, the Explore phase occurring in the first quarter of 2021 and Realize beginning in the second quarter of 2021. The core delivery team was roughly 10 FTE drawn from Alliander business key users and IT experts, supplemented with ad-hoc expertise and McCoy consultants, operating with a together focus and do mentality to enable rapid decisions and fixes. Hypercare and aftercare phases focused on resolving residual outages, completing connection checks by key users, and the formal transfer to management prior to project discharge.
The program completed cutover activities to enable live operations as of April 1, 2022, with negligible replication outages that were addressed during the initial weeks of operation. Simplification provided Alliander with a consolidated SAP S/4 HANA foundation, positioning the finance organization to proceed with its Fit4Future ambition while retaining Central Finance and Group Reporting as the central ERP Financial components for consolidation and reporting.

| Workday | Legacy | Workday Absence Management | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017, Alliander implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a multi-module Workday deployment. The rollout targeted absence and leave administration for approximately 6000 staff, and was executed alongside Recruitment, Human Capital Management, Talent and Performance, and Compensation modules.
Workday Absence Management was configured to support standard absence and leave workflows, including entitlement calculation, time-off request and approval routing, and balance tracking aligned with organizational absence policies. The implementation included module-level configuration and testing for integrations with payroll and HR recordkeeping, reflecting typical Absence and Leave Management functional patterns within an enterprise HR suite.
Integrations were established directly to SAP and ADP Payroll, and to many other individual applications as part of the integration set-up. The project team of around twenty-five people combined Alliander staff, PwC consultants, and individual contractors, which shaped a centralized integration and deployment structure with defined touchpoints between Workday and external systems.
Governance followed a waterfall project methodology consistent with standard Workday approaches, with intensive stakeholder management to address escalations from HR Business partners. The program mitigated design disputes through a heavily staffed change board and strict procedures, and included explicit security coordination and a formal change and communication stream to manage rollout and adoption.

| Hyland | Legacy | Hyland Perceptive Process (ex BPMone) | Business Process Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2014 | 2014 |
In 2014, Alliander used Hyland Perceptive Process (ex BPMone) as a Business Process Management solution to apply process mining and gain end-to-end visibility into purchasing processes in the Netherlands. The initiative explicitly targeted purchasing and the procure-to-pay value stream, concentrating on process discovery, transparency, and operational control across procurement and accounts payable functions.
Alliander configured Hyland Perceptive Process to emphasize process mining and analytics capabilities common to Business Process Management platforms, including process discovery, monitoring, workflow orchestration, and reporting to map procure-to-pay flows. The implementation used these modules to identify process variants, bottlenecks, and decision points, and to create clearer process definitions that supported accountability.
Operational coverage was focused on the Netherlands procurement and finance organization, with workstreams analyzing purchasing transaction paths and approval routing within the procure-to-pay lifecycle. Outputs from Perceptive Process provided stakeholders with actionable visibility into deviations and control points in purchasing processes.
Governance and process changes centered on leveraging Perceptive Process insights to assign accountability and to surface opportunities for measurable process optimization and control. The program produced clearer insights and accountability for purchasing processes, and it surfaced concrete opportunities to strengthen procurement governance and operational controls.
