In 2020, Associated British Ports implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial system to consolidate core finance capabilities across the organization. The implementation targeted finance alongside adjacent functions including HR, payroll and operational business areas, establishing SAP S/4 HANA as the principal transactional backbone for financial accounting and reporting.
Configuration emphasized standard ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting data models, with a focus on creating consolidated ledgers and standardized master data to support cross-functional reporting. SAP S/4 HANA was instrumented to feed analytical layers and to support end-to-end financial workflows consistent with enterprise ERP Financial deployments.
Operational data flows explicitly integrate SAP S/4 HANA with third party and internal systems, the reporting team extracts and combines data from SAP S/4 HANA, Jira, SuccessFactors and offline sources to produce unified Power BI reports. The organization leverages Power BI for finance, HR, payroll and operations reporting, while Jira houses issue and project management workflows and the Power Platform, including Power Automate and Power Apps, provides automation and process standardization connecting transactional ERP outputs to downstream operational processes.
Governance is organized around a centralized reporting and automation capability, where a Reporting Specialist builds and maintains Power BI models, Jira automation and Power Platform solutions to enforce standardized workflows and reduce manual errors. These practices produce consolidated, understandable data analysis for stakeholders and introduce automation to speed end to end journeys, while preserving operational control of financial processes within the SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial environment.

In 2016, Associated British Ports implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as part of a broader Core HR program. The engagement began in October 2016 and ran through May 2017 with project leadership based in London.
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central was implemented alongside SuccessFactors LMS and Recruiting modules. Configurations focused on establishing a central employee master record, organizational management, and standard Core HR workflows for hire to retire. The implementation included configuration of role based security, data model mapping, and employee lifecycle processes consistent with Core HR practice.
Integrations were executed with payroll systems and Kronos Time & Attendance to synchronize time, attendance, and payroll relevant employee attributes. Integration workstreams targeted system to system data exchanges for time entries, pay codes, and employee identifiers, maintaining SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as the canonical employee data source. Operational coverage centered on HR and payroll functions in the United Kingdom, with project activities coordinated from London.
Governance was managed through a programme management structure, with an HR solution architect and Programme Manager overseeing a series of HR projects that included Employee Central, LMS, Recruiting, Payroll, and Kronos Time & Attendance. Rollout and change control followed project governance principles, including staged configuration, testing cycles, and coordinated cutover across HR processes.

In 2017 Associated British Ports implemented SAP Enterprise Asset Management to support engineering and maintenance for its port operations. The SAP Enterprise Asset Management deployment targeted Enterprise Asset Management capabilities within SAP S/4 HANA EAM 1503 and 1809 to standardize asset lifecycle control across terminals and cargo handling infrastructure.
The implementation included hands on configuration of SAP PM, SAP QM and DMS via SPRO, and a focused rollout of Linear Asset Management using SAP LAM. Core functional modules and capabilities implemented were equipment and functional location management, task lists and maintenance plans, measurement points and measurement entry lists, bill of materials and document management, and permit to work workflows.
Data collection and migration planning formed a central part of the program, with explicit scope for migrating EAM PM objects such as class, characteristics, catalogs, equipment, functional locations, linear assets, task lists, measurement points, measurement entry list, bill of materials, maintenance plans, documents and permit to work records. Functional specifications were produced for system enhancements and add ons on SAP Enterprise Asset Management to meet business requirements and to validate data models during cutover.
Operational coverage focused on engineering and maintenance teams supporting terminal ports operation, cargo handling, storage, warehousing and transportation services. Business process mapping and business case scenario building supported proof of concept activity, enabling configuration trade offs and prioritization of change across maintenance, quality and document control functions.
