athenahealth, Inc. is a publicly traded American company that provides network-enabled services for healthcare and point-of-care mobile apps in the United States. athenahealth has a network of more than 114,000 providers and 110 million patients and offers a suite of services to manage medical records, revenue cycle, patient engagement, care coordination, and population health.
The company was founded in 1997 in San Diego, California; it is now headquartered in Watertown, Massachusetts and has grown to include operational sites in Belfast, Maine; Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Texas; Princeton, New Jersey; and Chennai, Bangalore, and Pune, India.
Scope and Challenges
athenahealth, had a problem with the legacy NetSuite ERP system could not effectively support athenahealth’s global business and transformation to a project-based organization. Approval rules related to procurement, general ledger, and their expenses were inadequate to support internal controls. Their fixed assets were tracked offline in spreadsheets. Their procurement process was inefficient and hard to track. Their expenses could not be tagged to projects. Their chart of accounts reporting capabilities was limited.
Outcome and Implications
More than 1,300 customers - with more than 300 in production - have already switched to Oracle ERP Cloud in recent months, including athenahealth. The modules that athenahealth selected include GL, AP, AR, FA, CM, EXP, Financial Reporting Studio, PO, SelfService PO, Project Costing, OTBI.
