Berry Bros. & Rudd (BBR) is a family-run British wine and spirits merchant founded in London in 1698. Since then, the company has grown from a small coffee shop into an international business with six offices worldwide. As well as the finest wines, the company also sells wines and spirits under its own-label range, Berry Bros. & Rudd's Own Selection. Other services it offers include wine investment, wine storage, wine tastings, events, and educational courses.
Scope and Challenges
A business which is unique and complex, Berry Bros & Rudd needed new ERP solution mainly for financial reasons. With the growth of the company, also grew the financial operations on a daily bases. The legacy application didn't rise to the needs of the business so the replacement was inevitable.
The first phase Berry Bros. & Rudd has chosen Ciber to implement an SAP ERP system to support retail operations as well as the company’s online wine trading platform. But the first phase of the implementation didn't go as well as the company planned. The earlier attempts have brought nothing but a loss of time and company resources.
Outcome and Implications
At the end of 2017, Berry Bros. & Rudd selected Edenhouse for continuing the implementation process for SAP S/4 Hana, with Edenhouse the UK company have reached a significant milestone in their SAP project by successfully going live with Phase 2 of project Dionysus. As part of the project, there was an initial, mainly Finance related, to go live in April 2017.
Following this successful phase, the project has delivered companywide SAP functionality using SAP’s latest version of S/4HANA with Extended Warehouse Management, which includes excise, functionality to ensure HMRC compliance around bonded warehousing, which is a major milestone to achieve with any project of this size and complexity.
The implementation cost around 6.5 million dollars. After fantastic achievement for Edenhouse and Berry Bros & Rudd, they are looking forward to implementing Phase 3 and ensuring their customer takes advantage of all warehouse processing in their next phase.
