SAP Legacy SAP Concur Expense Expense Management ERP Financial Management n/a 2017 2017
In 2017, BGL Group implemented SAP Concur Expense to address Expense Management requirements within the Enterprise Technology organization. The rollout was conducted through the HRIS team where the author served as an Oracle Specialist and lead developer for HR business intelligence reporting and Oracle HCM Fusion cloud maintenance. The implementation focused on core expense reporting workflows, integrations and data movement rather than peripheral modules. SAP Concur Expense was configured alongside Oracle HCM Fusion reporting, with GDPR report development and interface design forming a central part of the effort. Functional activities included building proof of concepts in a development environment, coordinating user acceptance testing, and deploying interfaces and reports into production. Integrations included outbound interfaces from Oracle HCM Fusion to the SAP Concur Expense system, inbound and outbound data migrations, and connections to the internal Active Directory for directory synchronization activities. The architecture work emphasized interface orchestration and secure data transfers between HR systems and the Expense Management application, and the team maintained development, UAT and production environments to manage lifecycle changes. Governance and process work used an agile methodology, with requirements gathered through face to face meetings and conference calls, PoC validation with stakeholders, and coordinated UAT. Operational responsibilities carried forward into post go live support, including incident handling for HR and payroll, requests for changes, system configuration tasks such as creating departments positions and Descriptive Flex Fields, and maintaining technical and functional documentation plus a prioritized HRIS workstream matrix reviewed in regular priority meetings.

In 2021, BGL Group deployed the Sabio Virtual Assistant as a Chatbots and Conversational AI solution, launching the branded Ask Becky assistant to provide 24/7 online self-service for customers. The implementation positioned the Sabio Virtual Assistant within BGL Group’s CRM and customer self-service estate, with initial trials conducted in the United Kingdom. The solution was built on Nuance based conversational technology and implemented core capabilities typical of enterprise virtual assistants, including natural language understanding and intent classification, conversational flow orchestration, automated document retrieval to surface policy documents, and scripted escalation to human agents when required. Configuration focused on handling common policy and account queries to enable automated deflection from webchat and telephony channels. Operational scope covered BGL Group’s customer contact channel footprint in the UK, with the project scoped as a CRM/customer self-service implementation and trialed in customer-facing web channels. Governance changes included new routing and escalation workflows to integrate the assistant with existing webchat and telephony agent handoff processes, and staged trials prior to broader rollouts. Initial trials reported the assistant handling hundreds of customer queries with a 90% plus success rate, supporting the stated objective of reducing webchat and telephony contact volumes.
