| FIS Global | Legacy | FIS GETPAID | AR Automation | ERP | n/a | 2004 | 2004 |
In 2004 Canadian National Railway implemented FIS GETPAID. The deployment targeted AR Automation to standardize invoicing, remittance processing, and cash application workflows within the company accounts receivable function.
FIS GETPAID was configured to operate as the central accounts receivable engine, with typical AR Automation capabilities applied for electronic invoicing, automated cash posting, and dispute management workflows. Configuration emphasized transaction-level posting and reconciliation to support freight billing complexity and high-volume payment streams.
The implementation includes extensive, explicit interactions with CN internal freight systems, integrating FIS GETPAID with eBill, RMS, and ISS to enable invoice generation and to track freight shipments through billing and settlement processes. These integrations link shipment events and revenue data to accounts receivable records and remittance processing.
Operational scope covered finance and billing teams that interact with freight operations, with governance focused on centralizing AR processing and standardizing invoice-to-cash workflows. Process changes centered on tighter coordination between billing, revenue accounting, and operations teams to ensure invoices derived from shipment systems were reconciled through FIS GETPAID.

| Cornerstone OnDemand | Legacy | Cornerstone HR Suite | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2019 | 2020 |
In 2019 Canadian National Railway implemented Cornerstone HR Suite within its Core HR environment as part of a coordinated HR technology program. This initiative ran in parallel with deployments of SharePoint for HR content management and Tableau for HR analytics, positioning Cornerstone HR Suite as the primary HRIS for talent and learning workflows.
Cornerstone HR Suite was configured to support multiple functional modules, including Learning, Onboarding, Performance, Succession and Recruitment. Configuration work emphasized end to end design through to deployment, covering learning management setup, onboarding workflow orchestration, performance cycle configuration, succession planning libraries and recruitment workflow definitions. The project scope noted ongoing incremental builds on these foundational modules rather than a one time cutover.
The implementation architecture included explicit integrations with SharePoint to manage HR content and with Tableau to surface HR metrics and dashboards from Cornerstone HR Suite. Operational coverage involved HRIS team members, internal HR groups including Talent Acquisition and Learning and Development, IT stakeholders and vendor support for issue management. Release management and quality assurance activities were formalized to coordinate configuration testing, production deployments and post release stabilization.
Governance and process responsibilities were embedded into the HRIS analyst role, requiring gathering requirements, designing configuration artifacts in alignment with business stakeholders, testing and deploying configuration pieces, and maintaining system integrity through security roles and group management. The role also includes support activities such as demos, training, documentation and audit analysis to ensure governance adherence as CN continues to extend Cornerstone HR Suite capabilities.

In 2017, Canadian National Railway implemented SAP Enterprise Asset Management as part of a broader SAP S/4HANA transformation program. The deployment centralized Enterprise Asset Management capabilities to support asset maintenance, work order management, preventive maintenance, spare parts control and asset master data across CN operations, aligning asset lifecycle processes with business functions including Engineering, Mechanics, Finance, HR and P&SM teams.
Implementation included configuration of core SAP Enterprise Asset Management functionality alongside embedded QA controls, with QA Domain Specialists designated as subject matter experts for Finance, P&SM, Engineering, Mechanics and HR modules. QA responsibilities covered test strategy, entry and exit criteria, test planning across sanity, functional, integration, UAT and regression phases, plus test automation planning, assessments and script development to support continuous testing initiatives.
Operational integration relied on SAP Solution Manager for landscape, transport and release management and connected test governance to test management platforms explicitly cited in governance materials, including MicroFocus ALM, MicroFocus Octane and AzureDevOps, while documentation and knowledge management used SharePoint and Confluence. Delivery followed an Agile and hybrid model with virtual global QA teams coordinating with developers, release coordinators and business owners to orchestrate defect triage, prioritization, tracking and validation within the SAP delivery pipeline.
Governance centered on a standardized QA operating model with audits, gates, KPIs and Go/NoGo criteria, enabling the QA Domain Specialist to estimate test effort, monitor progress, report quality status and escalate risks to product owners. The program institutionalized Shift Left practices, cross training to preserve skills, and continuous improvement of reusable test instructions and QA governance tools to streamline test delivery and maintain quality oversight.
