In 2021, Castrol deployed Moodle LMS on its corporate website to centralize online training and employee learning resources for Learning and Development. The implementation targets Castrol's workforce of approximately 7000 employees in the Oil, Gas and Chemicals industry and establishes a unified delivery layer for e learning content and formal training programs.
The Moodle LMS instance was configured with core course management, learning path and curriculum support, assessment and quiz engines, completion tracking, and reporting dashboards to support both instructor led and self paced delivery. Operational coverage includes the Learning and Development function and HR aligned training processes, with the platform used to publish mandatory courses and structured development curricula.
Governance is led by Castrol's Learning and Development organization with defined administrative roles for content curation and user provisioning, and site administrators responsible for technical configuration. In 2010 Castrol implemented SAP BusinessObjects as an Analytics and BI platform to support its Worldwide Castrol Presales Insight Team. The deployment used Business Objects XI3.1 SP3 with Live Office XI 3.1 SP3, Xcelsius 2008 SP3, BI Explorer, QAAWS, MS Excel 2007 and MS SQL Server 2005, forming a hybrid BI front end layer for presales reporting and dashboarding.
The implementation consisted of Xcelsius dashboards, Web Intelligence reports and Live Office documents to surface KPIs such as resource utilization, demonstrations conducted, response time, customer facing time, deal investment and demo configuration time. Universes were created to expose SAP BW characteristics and measures, smart measures were implemented for selected KPIs, and aggregate aware objects and universe restrictions were configured to optimize query behavior and support dashboard filters at country and continent granularity.
Integrations tied SAP BusinessObjects to SAP BW for master data and measures, and to MS SQL Server and Excel through Live Office and QAAWS for data provisioning into Xcelsius dashboards. BI Explorer components and verbose security were implemented to enable user personalization and exploratory analysis, while universes provided semantic abstraction for self service reporting and consistent KPI calculation across WebI and Xcelsius artifacts.
Operational governance included use of alerts with dynamic visibility in Web Intelligence to highlight trends based on filter selection, creation of UTCs for Xcelsius dashboards and systematic data validation. Performance testing was executed with LoadRunner 9.0 to create, run and analyze scripts against defined SLAs, providing a tested baseline for report response times in the presales reporting environment.
