Oracle Legacy Oracle PeopleSoft ERP ERP Financial ERP Financial Management n/a 2002 2003
In 2002, Children's Hospital Los Angeles implemented Oracle PeopleSoft ERP as its ERP Financial backbone to support enterprise financial and research administration processes. The implementation was positioned to consolidate finance and sponsored research workflows for the academic medical center. The deployment included PeopleSoft 9.2 for Research Administration and was configured with modules and capabilities such as A/R and Billing, Contracts, Project Costing, Grants Module, Grants Portal, Workcenters, BI Publisher, NVISION, Commitment Accounting, and query building and reporting. Configuration work emphasized customization, data conversion, reconciliation, and the creation of complex queries and ad hoc reports to support research award and billing lifecycles. Operational governance centered on Research Operations and IT collaboration, with a Senior Research Operations Business Analyst serving as the technical expert and liaison. This role led customization, implementation and upgrade projects, produced documentation and training materials, reviewed and corrected end user input errors, mentored users to reduce errors, and maintained data flow within Research Operations processes. Reporting and operational workspaces were implemented using Workcenters, BI Publisher and NVISION to provide query driven reporting and commitment accounting controls. Testing, validation and upgrade activities were coordinated between Research Operations and IT to sustain module enhancements and data integrity.

Oracle Legacy Oracle PeopleSoft Absence Management Absence and Leave Management HCM n/a 2012 2013
In 2012 Children's Hospital Los Angeles implemented Oracle PeopleSoft Absence Management as part of a broader PeopleSoft HCM program. The deployment targeted Absence and Leave Management to support HR and payroll workflows across the hospital, aligning absence tracking with Time and Labor and North American payroll processing for a 2000 plus multi-state and Canadian payroll population. Oracle PeopleSoft Absence Management was deployed alongside Core HR, Time and Labor, NA/Global Payroll, Expense, Benefits Administration, Security, ESS/MSS, ePerformance, and Enterprise Learning Management modules. Configuration work included establishing the ELM environment and catalog, developing customized Time and Labor rules for hourly non-exempt workers, and applying PeopleSoft application patches and tax bundles to maintain regulatory compliance. The implementation architecture ran on PeopleSoft 9.x HCM suites with a portal tier, using AIX UNIX and DB2 with Oracle database components, PeopleTools 8.49 and 8.5, and PeopleCode based extensions. Data conversion and integration work used Informatica ETL for data mapping and test table staging, and the project coordinated test system setups and parallel testing with external payroll vendors such as ADP and Ceridian. Governance and rollout activity focused on Fit/Gap analysis, Functional Specification and Requirements documentation, and production support processes. The program provided ongoing payroll production support including biweekly processing, year end W2/W2c processing, tax updates, and created step by step operational procedures with screenshots to standardize payroll and absence workflows.

Oracle Legacy Oracle Cerner Millennium Electronic Health Record ERP Services and Operations n/a 2013 2014
In 2013, Children's Hospital Los Angeles implemented Oracle Cerner Millennium as its Electronic Health Record. Concurrently the organization developed a custom clinical portal to extend patient information access to community clinicians and integrate directly with Oracle Cerner Millennium for secure exchange of clinical data. The clinical portal was built to provide modules for timely patient information access, referral management, and clinician collaboration, and to support desktop and mobile workflows on iPhone and iPad, Android, Windows, and Windows 8 mobile devices. The portal was designed to be fully auditable and to require two factor authentication for external provider access, enabling CHLA to permit protected health information to be accessed outside the four walls of the hospital for the first time. Deployment architecture for the portal is cloud based, hosted on Microsoft Azure with SQL backend, while development and release activities leveraged Visual Studio Online and TFS Online to accelerate iteration and deployment. Integration scope explicitly included Oracle Cerner Millennium EMR, providing read and transactional interoperability points between the Cerner Electronic Health Record and the portal user interface. Rollout was phased with more than 700 physicians onboarded in the first phase and a stated goal to expand to over 2,000 community physicians, focusing governance on security, auditability, and access control for external users. CHLA leadership cited the scalability and flexibility of the Microsoft Azure platform as a primary driver of the architecture choice. CHLA reported that using cloud services and modern developer tooling reduced development and deployment time and cost while enabling broader clinician access and collaboration, aligning the Oracle Cerner Millennium Electronic Health Record with an externally facing clinical portal that supports referring practices and regional clinical workflows.
