| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017, Chorus Telecommunications implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to provision core ERP Financial capabilities for its wholesale billing and finance operations. The deployment was positioned to centralize financial processing and give Chorus operational control over billing for its wholesale customers, reflecting objectives of independence, flexibility, and improved speed to market.
The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 implementation concentrated on ERP Financial functional modules, including general ledger, accounts receivable and invoicing configuration, revenue accounting and billing orchestration capabilities typical of an enterprise ERP Financial stack. Configuration work emphasized adaptable billing rules and invoice processing workflows to support Chorus’s requirement for greater billing agility and product-level pricing control for wholesale customers.
Operational integrations focused on linking SAP ERP ECC 6.0 with Chorus billing processes and wholesale customer interfaces to consolidate financial posting and customer invoicing inside Chorus’s own systems. The program was explicitly tied to remediation efforts arising from the formal Chorus Spark split, and the implementation scope covered finance and billing teams responsible for wholesale customer monetization across New Zealand.
Governance and rollout were driven by finance and CTO leadership, with subsequent partner engagement to evolve billing capabilities. Chorus later collaborated with Zag in 2020 to transform its customer billing platform, continuing the trajectory toward independent, flexible billing operations. The narrative centers on Chorus, SAP ERP ECC 6.0, ERP Financial and finance led billing control as the primary signals of this implementation.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP HCM (HR) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017 Chorus Telecommunications implemented SAP HCM (HR) as its Core HR solution for the company wide HR function. The deployment targeted Chorus NZ Limited human resources operations and supported the employee population in Wellington and Wairarapa, aligning central HR record keeping and organisational structure management under a single Core HR application.
SAP HCM (HR) was configured to support core human capital workflows including organisational management, employee master data, and HR reporting. Reporting capability was implemented using SAP Ad Hoc Query and Spinifex for operational and ad hoc HR extracts, while performance and development workflows were operationally coordinated with SilkRoad Performance and Development modules.
The implementation operated alongside and interfaced with other HR tools used by Chorus, including SuccessFactors for systems administration tasks and RemLink for structured remuneration review processes. These system relationships enabled HR metrics and trend analysis to draw from SAP HCM (HR) authoritative personnel records, while specialist HRIS reporting workflows consolidated data across the HR tech stack.
Governance and process responsibilities were centered on an HRIS reporting specialist role, which managed SAP HR reporting, organisational structure updates, annual performance and remuneration review cycles, and employee engagement and benefits administration. The configuration emphasized formalised reporting, structured remuneration review support, and administration of employee equity scheme and diversity and inclusion related records within the Core HR platform.
