In 2020, Coop Sweden implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its new ERP Financial core under a multi year transformation program. Tata Consultancy Services expanded its strategic partnership to lead the integration of SAP S/4 HANA into Coop's financial systems and to develop a future proof digital core for the grocery business.
The deployment concentrated on functional modules for finance, logistics and purchasing, alongside category, pricing and promotions workflows, and strengthened master data and store analysis capabilities. SAP S/4 HANA was configured to create a unified, process centered real time view of operations to support inventory accounting, optimized inventory levels, assortment expansion, traceability and improved availability in local stores.
TCS ran the conversion program in close collaboration with Coop and with ongoing alignment to SAP, covering Coop's Swedish retail operations including headquarters finance and the store network. Integration work explicitly targeted financial systems to unify accounting, reporting and purchasing to inventory flows across the organization.
TCS also led governance and organizational change management, delivering planned communication, training and role enabling to embed new processes and controls. The program documentation states the new digital solution is expected to increase stability and flexibility in Coop's grocery business and to enable improved business management and a superior customer experience.

In 2019, COOP Sweden deployed Datalogic Grocery - In-Store & Point Of Sales using Datalogic Joya Touch devices to enable self scanning and self shopping across its Swedish store network. The roll out targeted the self checkout and point of sale process area to upgrade aging self checkout hardware and standardize customer interactions at checkout.
The implementation centered on device level provisioning of Joya Touch handhelds to support self scanning workflows, barcode capture, touch based customer interfaces and POS transaction capture consistent with Point Of Sale capabilities. Configuration activities included store level device enrollment, catalog and barcode synchronization, and a cashier assisted mode to surface staff intervention flows during transactions.
Operational scope covered in store operations and store staff across Sweden, impacting retail operations and customer service functions. Governance emphasized retraining front line teams to shift from cashiering to in store customer assistance during a staged rollout. The deployment improved shopper satisfaction, enabled a reduction in staffed cashier positions and allowed staff to be redeployed to in store customer assistance as reported.
