In 2016, the Department of the Attorney General implemented SAP S/4 HANA to modernize its ERP Financial platform, migrating from SAP ERP ECC 6.0. The deployment was anchored on SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud via the federal Shared Services Centre, with hosting provisioned in Canberra Data Centres.
SAP S/4 HANA was configured to support core finance and human resources workflows consistent with ERP Financial requirements, including general ledger, accounts payable, procurement and human capital management capabilities. The Attorney General's Department operates on a single SAP HANA powered instance alongside other New South Wales law enforcement and emergency services, reflecting a consolidated SAP Business Suite footprint in the public safety domain.
The implementation used a private cloud architecture hosted in CDC facilities in Fyshwick and Hume, delivered in partnership with Hewlett Packard and offering fully managed and hybrid hosting options and subscription based pricing for software and infrastructure. The Shared Services Centre provisioned the ERP platform to multiple agencies, with the SSC historically serving 14 agencies including the Department of Education and Training, Employment, Department of Social Services and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Governance and procurement were handled through the SSC and federal contracting mechanisms, with a HANA Enterprise Cloud project and production software contract recorded in public disclosures. The Canberra hosting model was selected to enable in memory computing in the cloud while addressing offshore data residency concerns, positioning SAP S/4 HANA to support the Department of the Attorney General's ERP Financial and HR operational scope within a shared services delivery model.
