In 2018, Electronic Arts implemented Zuora Revenue as its Revenue Cycle Management platform to centralize subscription and transaction accounting for game and digital content monetization. The deployment targeted corporate finance and cross functional teams including Finance, Tax, Treasury, Controllership, Accounting, Marketing, Legal, Business Development, Digital Platforms, and Supply Chain to align order to revenue processes with emerging player facing business models.
Zuora Revenue was configured for core revenue lifecycle modules such as billing orchestration, contract and subscription management, revenue recognition, and revenue accounting close support, with functional design and system configuration led by senior solutions architecture and finance teams. The implementation emphasized detailed functional design artifacts, proof of concept and end to end testing, and automation of recurring revenue posting and close workflows to support quarter end and year end fiscal close activities.
The architecture integrated Zuora Revenue as a SaaS revenue engine with EA in house transactional systems and data platforms using APIs and SQL, leveraging Oracle database expertise for ledger interfaces and Snowflake for analytical data warehousing. Data flows were established to push recognized revenue and transaction level events into general ledger posting interfaces and the cloud data warehouse, enabling consolidated reporting and audit traceability.
Governance and rollout were organized through the EA Solutions Architecture function with oversight from the Director of Solutions Architecture for Finance and Legal, and close collaboration with audit and compliance to build system controls. The program followed staged delivery, solution delivery oversight, and transition to operations practices, with cross product and technical teams embedding new workflows and controls into finance and business operations.
