Erste Group IT led governance for the rollout in collaboration with SAP Digital Business Services, instituting centralized process and data governance to enforce consistent chart of accounts and reporting taxonomies across subsidiaries. Rollout sequencing and country-level adaptation were coordinated by central IT to align local statutory requirements with the unified finance core.
As a result of the program Erste Group IT now runs on a single digital core, allowing it to unite international banking operations and use data to deliver better consumer experience, with SAP S/4 HANA functioning as the bank's ERP Financial backbone.

The initial implementation centered on Pega Client Lifecycle Management CLM for corporate onboarding and Know Your Customer review processes, delivering a minimum loveable product in six months. Configuration emphasized orchestration of onboarding workflows, automated compliance checkpoints, rule driven KYC screening, and repeatable process templates to support future expansion into lending, securities, investigation, and reconciliation business lines.
Operational rollout began with four entities in Austria and was prepared for broader rollout across the bank's countries of operation, covering back-office functions from onboarding to offboarding and cross channel case management. The Pega Platform implementation integrated more than 10 internal and external systems to feed data and automate checkpoints, and it centralized case orchestration across teams to reduce manual handoffs.
Governance changes focused on digitizing collaboration and embedding compliance controls into automated workflows, moving control points into configured CLM rules and case stages. As a result of the Pega Client Lifecycle Management CLM deployment Erste Group recorded a 60 percent reduction in onboarding processing time and automated more than 50 compliance checkpoints, while scaling the Pega Platform to additional business lines and operational areas.
