In 2025 Essential Energy implemented Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Cloud Service as part of a cloud-first modernization of its asset and workforce systems, applying Enterprise Asset Management capabilities across one of Australia’s largest electricity distribution footprints. The deployment covers Essential Energy’s network that serves over 890,000 customers across 95 percent of New South Wales and parts of southern Queensland, and supports management of more than 10 million assets to improve visibility and operational planning.
Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Cloud Service was configured to deliver end to end work and asset management, providing insights, modelling, and planning capabilities to systemise maintenance requirements and establish a single operational view. The implementation was paired with Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning and Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management to extend financial control, workforce management, and employee experience functions into the same data model.
Integration between Oracle Fusion Applications and Oracle Utilities WACS created a centralised and common data model for asset and financial management, enabling cross functional workflows between asset engineering, maintenance planning, finance, and HR. The combined architecture supports operational use cases such as maintenance scheduling, workforce allocation, asset valuation, and planning simulations while maintaining alignment across enterprise systems.
Governance and operational cadence were structured around Oracle Fusion Application quarterly update cycles, providing continuous innovation on a 90 day rhythm without downtime as stated by the vendor. According to Essential Energy, the solution improved asset management practices, aligned enterprise systems, increased productivity, expanded workforce insights, and positioned the organization to better support NSW’s clean energy transition while strengthening network resilience.
