In 2017, Etihad Airways upgraded SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4 HANA as part of a targeted ERP Financial initiative. The SAP S/4 HANA implementation acted as the architectural anchor for multiple SAP projects and centralized finance application design across finance and commercial business functions.
Implementation scope included configuring Inflight Catering Billing in SAP and implementing employee expense management via SAP CONCUR, alongside fit gap analysis and design authority input for finance process changes. The program emphasized automation of airline specific business cycles such as Ticket to Revenue and Flight to Cost and included implementation and configuration of Order to Cash capabilities consistent with ERP Financial requirements.
Technical workstreams covered data migration and system integrations for Order to Cash under a Global Process Owner governance model, with delivery notes indicating no major post go live issues. A bespoke Ground Handling Billing Solution was architected and built using Microsoft and SAP tools with a project budget of USD 100K, developed in close collaboration with ground operations and integrated into the SAP landscape to capture billing for the ground services entity.
Governance and process ownership were formalized through active membership in the design authority for any finance function changes, leading business needs assessments, defining business requirements, and executing fit gap analysis. The architecture and rollout combined solution design, process restructuring, and integration planning, and the ground handling solution explicitly generated additional annual revenue of USD 24 million for the ground services entity.

In 2015 Etihad Airways migrated its HR IT landscape into SAP's cloud suite and implemented SAP SuccessFactors Compensation as a targeted Compensation Management capability within that program. The work was positioned as a cloud-first replatforming of HR processes into SuccessFactors and Employee Central, with SAP SuccessFactors Compensation specified for structured pay and variable compensation workflows.
The implementation established Employee Central as the system of record, and provisioned Employee Central Payroll alongside optimization of existing SuccessFactors modules including recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, learning and development, and compensation. Etihad also implemented Employee Central Service Centre to provide a multi-channel online issue resolution centre for HR grievances and issues, and digitalized HR documentation through an OpenText xECM integration for centralized document management.
Integrations were organized around the SuccessFactors suite, linking Employee Central with Employee Central Payroll and connecting compensation workflows into recruitment and performance modules to support end to end employee lifecycle processes. Operational coverage emphasized HR business functions across compensation administration, payroll processing, talent acquisition, learning, and employee services rather than a single site deployment.
Project governance followed SAP's ACTIVATE cloud delivery methodology and tracked all project phase deliverables, enforcing phased rollout milestones and configuration approvals. Governance activities focused on aligning compensation configuration, approval workflows, and service centre triage to standardized HR operational processes.

Operational scope concentrated on Abu Dhabi International Airport, touching ground handling, ramp operations and workforce management functions within Etihad Airport Services. The implementation was delivered by vendor INFORM GmbH and oriented around centralizing crew rostering and operational control for airport ground services, aligning planning and live operations for the workforce indicated.
Governance was established inside Etihad Airport Services to oversee schedule management and operational workflows, with the system intended to standardize rostering practices and tighten operational procedures across ground handling teams.
