In 2015, Gerdau implemented Equifax I-9 Management to centralize HR Compliance functions across its corporate and U.S. operational HR teams. The deployment was positioned to manage employee I-9 records, re-verification workflows, and E-Verify case tracking as part of routine employment verification and onboarding controls.
Equifax I-9 Management was configured to handle I-9 re-verification, E-Verify issues, missing documentation remediation, over documentation review, pending status tracking, and full I-9 process and procedure enforcement. Functional workflows supported onboarding verification, current employee attestations, and termination record maintenance, with case resolution and documentation status controls embedded in operational procedures.
Operational coverage included Gerdau Ameristeel in Tampa, FL, corporate HR, and remote human resources teams, and an external HR consultant executed an I-9 audit for approximately 8,000 employees during a subsequent 2016 engagement. Monthly coordination sessions were established with Equifax administrators and Gerdau’s Human Resources team to review and resolve open I-9 cases and ensure consistent handling of exceptions.
Governance was formalized through recurring review meetings, standardized I-9 remediation procedures, and alignment of verification activities with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. The contracted HR Consultant managed day-to-day Equifax I-9 Management processes including re-verification, E-Verify issue resolution, and documentation remediation across onboarding, active employee verification, and separation workflows.

In 2021, Gerdau implemented Refrac Chain developed by Cryptonomia on the Hathor Blockchain Platform, a Blockchain Platform solution launched initially at a Gerdau site in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The deployment was a joint initiative with RHI Magnesita to digitize and secure contractual performance data for refractory supplies, moving transaction recording and measurements from manual spreadsheets into an auditable distributed ledger.
The Refrac Chain implementation consolidates technical, legal, and commercial workflows within a single application layer, and it includes automated financial calculation routines and programmatic measurement logic that replace prior manual calculations. The platform supports digital signatures and staged validation steps that are executed by designated representatives from both companies, and it provides a repository for proof artifacts including images, documents, text, video, and audio to increase auditability.
Operationally the deployment is a decentralized application operating on the Hathor Blockchain Platform and is scoped to supplier performance and contract management between Gerdau and RHI Magnesita at the Minas Gerais site, with an expressed intent to expand to additional Gerdau operations. The architecture records all transactional events on-chain and orchestrates off-chain processing through the application’s dedicated programmatic modules, enabling automated data transactions and traceability across the supplier relationship.
Governance was redesigned to introduce dual-party validation workflows, continuous on-chain audit trails, and monitored digital signature lifecycles, shifting control and verification from manual, spreadsheet-driven processes to instrumented blockchain workflows. The initiative explicitly aims to reduce repetitive work, increase transparency and security of contractual information, and accelerate operational decision making by providing a single, verifiable source of truth for refractory performance contracts.

In 2015, Gerdau implemented Microsoft 365 to deliver Collaboration services across the enterprise and to surface Microsoft 365 capabilities on their public website. The implementation is tied to Gerdau, Microsoft 365, and the Collaboration category, aligning the application to corporate communication and content collaboration needs within the Oil, Gas and Chemicals sector.
The deployment used a Microsoft 365 cloud tenant architecture with core workloads provisioned for enterprise email, team collaboration, and document management. Functional components commonly enabled in this configuration include Exchange Online for messaging, SharePoint Online for content repositories and intranet scenarios, OneDrive for Business for user file storage, and Microsoft Teams for synchronous and asynchronous collaboration.
Microsoft 365 features are surfaced on Gerdau’s website, integrating public facing content delivery with authenticated collaboration where appropriate. Identity and access management is consistent with Microsoft patterns, using Azure Active Directory based single sign on and conditional access to govern access to Collaboration workloads and to support centralized account provisioning and lifecycle controls.
Operational scope emphasizes centralized tenant administration and policy enforcement, with governance practices oriented around compliance configuration, data loss prevention rules, and content lifecycle management. Gerdau’s use of Microsoft 365 for Collaboration positions the application as the primary platform for corporate collaboration, email, and document management across the organization.
