In 2009 Indian Bank deployed TCS BaNCS as its Core Banking application across 1647 branches, initiating a national core banking modernization program announced from Bangalore, India. The implementation targeted both corporate and retail product sets and was positioned to re-engineer the bank's IT infrastructure for standardized, bankwide processing.
The TCS BaNCS implementation delivered a state-of-the-art core system with business workflow, rules-based routing, electronic transactions, and cash management services. Indian Bank configured TCS BaNCS modules to enable workflow-driven account servicing, transaction processing, and product orchestration consistent with Core Banking functional design.
Operational coverage included the branch network and centralized back office operations, standardizing transaction flows and enabling consistent servicing across corporate and retail business functions. Tata Consultancy Services and its TCS Financial Solutions team provided program delivery and ongoing implementation support during the rollout.
Governance emphasized a clean sheet approach to IT infrastructure, bank led process re-engineering, and phased rollout sequencing across branches. The program was recognized by Celent as a Model Bank, and the deployment explicitly produced a re-engineered IT infrastructure, increased back office and IT efficiency, and a broader product offering for Indian Bank.

In 2017, Indian Bank deployed Microsoft Power BI as its enterprise Analytics and BI platform to centralize reporting and visualization across retail, corporate and credit functions. The Microsoft Power BI implementation targeted bank wide visibility into key performance indicators, providing both bank as whole and branch wise segregation of operational and financial metrics.
The implementation included data ingestion and ETL workflows, data wrangling and exploratory data analysis processes, and the creation of interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI. Functional capabilities implemented included KPI visualization, branch level reporting, automated periodic report generation, model monitoring and alerting for business as usual models, and development of predictive analytics workflows such as customer retention scoring, loan application status models, loan fraud monitoring, spend analytics and pre approved advance targeting.
Power BI was integrated with the banks Big Data platform and leveraged standard data engineering and analytics tools including SQL, Spark and Python for preparation and modeling. Operational coverage extended across business units including Credit, MSME, Retail, Corporate and functional stakeholders such as Risk Management, Digital Banking, ATM and Credit Cards, and Marketing, with report flows consolidated from a single data source and periodic submission mechanisms to regulatory authorities such as RBI and DFS.
Governance and process changes focused on establishing key risk and performance indicators to support oversight, monitoring and testing, and on automating manual reporting processes to ensure timely provision of data for balance sheet preparation and regulatory reporting. Outcomes documented by internal teams included the introduction of visual dashboards that replaced traditional spreadsheets for top level officials, automated and seamless periodic data flow reports from a single data source, branch optimization insights, and a 360 degree customer profiling model to support cross sell and product targeting.
