In 2021, Insulet Corporation implemented SAP S/4 HANA in a greenfield SAP S4 HANA Greenfield implementation, engaging PwC and leveraging PwC Acceleration Centers for a program that ran from December 2021 to July 2022. The initiative was scoped under the ERP Financial category and explicitly replaced Microsoft Dynamics AX as the company financial backbone.
The SAP S/4 HANA deployment focused on core financial modules and configuration typical for ERP Financial projects, including general ledger and chart of accounts rationalization, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset accounting, financial close and consolidation capabilities, and master data governance for finance. The implementation included configuration of controllership and statutory reporting processes, and the use of SAP S/4 HANA financial configuration patterns to standardize accounting and close workflows across the organization.
Integration work centered on migration and conversion of transactional and master data from Microsoft Dynamics AX into SAP S/4 HANA, with PwC Acceleration Centers driving data transformation, mapping and cutover sequencing. Interface rework and reconciliation patterns were established to ensure continuity of financial flows into the new SAP S/4 HANA instance, and the program documented end to end data lineage for finance master records.
Governance was organized through PwC supported acceleration and delivery teams, with a finance centric governance model to enforce chart of accounts standards, close controls and change management for accounting processes. The greenfield approach enabled business process standardization in finance and creation of an SAP S/4 HANA center of excellence model to manage configuration, testing and post go live hypercare.

| IBM | Legacy | IBM Maximo | Enterprise Asset Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2020 | 2021 |
In 2020, Insulet Corporation implemented IBM Maximo for Enterprise Asset Management at its Acton, MA high-volume manufacturing facility. IBM Maximo was deployed to centralize asset records, spare parts inventory and BOM visibility, while operationalizing work order management and preventive maintenance workflows that support Maintenance, Operations and Quality functions.
The IBM Maximo implementation included configuration of an asset register, work order and preventive maintenance modules, and inventory controls tied to component BOMs and spare tooling lists. Data from IBM Maximo was explicitly used to analyze BOM and inventory levels to identify the optimum quantity of spare tools to procure, and the system supported frontline troubleshooting by Maintenance and Operations teams for production-related issues.
Implementation governance emphasized cross-functional collaboration, with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Operations and Quality teams using Maximo outputs to inform PFMEA updates and risk priority number calculations. During 2020 a Manufacturing Engineer Co-op led six continuous improvement projects in the same facility that achieved a 95% increase in daily cell throughput, a 9% reduction in scrap, and reductions in downtime of approximately 100 hours per month related to component variability and supplier qualification; IBM Maximo served as the operational backbone for spare parts visibility and maintenance task definition while SOPs were designed to align maintenance activities with good documentation practices required by FDA regulations.
