In 2015, KKR France implemented SAP BW (Business Warehouse) as a Data Warehouse to consolidate project accounting and finance reporting across its fund management operations. The engagement defined an upgrade path from SAP BW 7.1 to SAP BW 7.4 and included architecture work covering BW 7.3 to 7.4 components to align the platform with HANA database capabilities.
The implementation delivered core reporting and modeling capabilities in SAP BW and SAP HANA, including HANA native modeling with Attribute Views, Analytic Views, Calculation Views, and graphical calculation views. Development activities encompassed SAP HANA programming using SQL and SQLScript, creation of information objects and packages in BW, schema management, importing table definitions, and managing data load processes such as suspending and resuming loads. Reporting techniques applied included calculation views, attribute mappings, analytic privileges, variables, system generated joins and multiple join types including inner, left outer, referential joins and unions.
Integrations were executed with SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence and BO Dashboard tooling, plus use of Design Studio and HANA Live for building calculation views and dashboards. Data extractions were implemented from SAP PP and QM modules to populate WebI reports, while PS and FI reporting requirements were addressed by adding WBS information into report logic. Operational scope emphasized the Finance department and project level reporting use cases, supporting fund management reporting needs across KKR office operations.
Governance and rollout were organized with technical and functional architecture ownership, written functional specifications for complex data transformation logic, and structured quality assurance including unit testing and system integration testing. The project was architected to avoid impact on business users during the upgrade, and deliverables included transforming 250 reports and enabling project level P and L reporting through integrated SAP BW and HANA models.
