| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019, Kontoor Brands implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial solution, replacing SAP ERP ECC 6.0. The deployment focused on establishing SAP S/4 HANA as the company finance backbone and included targeted fixed assets migration validation across 17 North America and 20 EMEA company codes.
The implementation concentrated on S/4 HANA Finance functionality and Group Reporting Consolidation, with design work for an all in one cash application report and trial balance extraction flows into BPC. Configuration and automation work encompassed out of the box S/4 HANA finance reporting for credit memos, custom Fiori apps, Analysis for Office for SAP S4HANA, and automated Excel reconciliations as interim solutions where custom reports were not yet available.
Integrations and interfacing activity was extensive and explicitly tested, including payment receipt patterns from retailers such as Walmart, Target, Amazon and Kohl's, bank statement ingestion, Blackline and Concur accounting workflows, BPC for consolidation, and Tax Vertex processing used by the Ernst and Young tax team. Data migration and reconciliation processes included coordinating Syniti export files in formats labeled Legacy data, All Records, Error data, Ready to Load and Post Load, with Python and R employed to analyze, aggregate and validate datasets.
Governance and rollout followed formal testing and release practices, covering unit, integration, functional, acceptance, regression and database testing, defect management and cross functional coordination with the PMO, onshore and offshore resources, and project stakeholders. Training and knowledge transfer were delivered to business users, including materials and hands on sessions for Tax Vertex processing and user training for developing automated reconciliations through pivot tables on data exported from SAP GUI and Fiori.
Explicit project outcomes recorded in the implementation include saving more than 100 hours of custom report development and testing time by leveraging an out of the box S/4 HANA Finance credit memo report, and reducing fixed assets data migration validation time from 24 hours to 30 minutes for the noted company code sets by using Excel Power Query, pivot tables, customized Fiori apps and Analysis for Office. Additional deliverables included a design specification for the automated all in one cash application report, an automated Excel reconciliation application for check payments, KPI dashboards and ongoing support for month end processes and S/4 HANA troubleshooting.
