| Microsoft | Legacy | Microsoft Dynamics NAV | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2013 | 2013 |
In 2013, Matalan implemented Microsoft Dynamics NAV as an ERP Financial application to support a targeted new store deployment. The project was managed under Microsoft as the vendor and focused on bringing core finance and store transactional capabilities into the retail footprint for the new location.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV was configured to cover standard ERP Financial workflows including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, inventory valuation, and procurement flows aligned to retail replenishment cycles. The implementation was aligned with retail transaction processing, with configuration work to adapt NAV financial modules to store-level posting and inventory reservations.
The deployment paired Microsoft Dynamics NAV with LS Retail for store-level retail operations, reflecting a combined solution architecture where LS Retail orchestrated point of sale and store transaction capture while NAV provided centralized financial and inventory ledgering. Operational coverage centered on the new store and connected back to corporate finance and inventory processes, establishing end to end transactional continuity between the storefront and financial ledgers.
Governance was organized around a store rollout model, with change controls focused on store opening procedures, transactional cutover, and financial posting policies to ensure consistent accounting treatment. The initiative emphasized aligning retail operational workflows with ERP Financial controls and establishing runbook procedures for ongoing store provisioning and financial reconciliation.

| Shine Interview | Legacy | Shine Live Video Interviewing | Video Interviewing | HCM | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017, Matalan implemented Shine Live Video Interviewing to support Video Interviewing for its recruitment function. The retailer evaluated several vendors and selected Shine in early 2017 based on functionality, candidate experience, and client support.
The implementation centralized asynchronous video interview invitations, candidate response tracking, and an automated text messaging capability that sends SMS prompts to invited candidates. Shine Live Video Interviewing was configured to improve invite email deliverability and to present recorded candidate responses for on-demand review, enabling hiring managers to assess candidate fit without scheduling synchronous screening calls.
Operational coverage included Matalan recruitment teams and hiring managers supporting hiring across its network of 227 UK stores and 31 international stores, and integration into the assessment centre workflow by providing pre-assessment video screenings. The platform supported high-volume invite workflows, with the recruitment team sending video interview invitations to 50 to 60 candidates per role to expand initial candidate screening throughput.
Governance and process changes focused on shifting screening work from telephone scheduling to asynchronous video screening, with the recruitment team and hiring managers adopting review workflows for recorded responses. Senior Recruitment Advisor feedback emphasized reduced time spent on CV review and screening calls, higher candidate engagement, increased attendance at assessment centres, and higher video interview completion rates after Shine Live Video Interviewing was put into use.

| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle Micros Retail J | Point Of Sale | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2012 | 2012 |
In 2012, Matalan deployed Oracle Micros Retail J as its Point Of Sale solution. The rollout centralized store-level transaction processing and real-time sales capture across its estate of 217 stores, establishing a consistent checkout and reporting backbone for retail operations.
Oracle Micros Retail J was configured to support core POS capabilities including transaction processing, stock level monitoring, till management, rota scheduling, and customer loyalty capture to the Matalan card and central customer database. Oracle Micros Retail J recorded item-level sales and promoted secure card processing at point of sale, enabling downstream retail analytics and store operations control.
The implementation integrated with peninsula barcode management software and Phoenix II barcode scanners at each till point to validate product barcodes and promotion codes, and with Numero for store performance reporting that produces hourly and daily totals and comparative graphs for head office analysis. Matalan also used Remote Pensoft as the hosted payroll system, accessed by HR to process payroll and calculate taxes from national insurance numbers, while POS transaction and inventory data were aggregated into a central reporting store for cross-system visibility.
Operationally the deployment affected store operations, head office analytics, and HR payroll processes, shifting routines from manual recording to electronic sales capture, automated reporting for cross-store comparison, and centralized rota and till management. The solution captured customer purchase histories on the Matalan card and in the database and reduced time spent on manual checkout and reporting tasks as described in project sources.
