HM Revenue & Customs | Government | 67500 | $9.5B | United Kingdom | THG Ingenuity | THG Ingenuity | eCommerce | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022 HM Revenue & Customs implemented THG Ingenuity as an eCommerce application to introduce commercial-grade online transaction and order orchestration capabilities into its digital estate. The implementation served as a platform-level commerce solution, provisioning storefront, product catalog, checkout and order management functions while supporting payment orchestration and commerce reporting workflows expected of an eCommerce application.
Configuration work focused on standard eCommerce modules, including product and catalog management, multi-channel checkout workflows, order lifecycle orchestration, refunds and returns processing, and commerce reporting and analytics. The deployment emphasized transactional data flows and tax-aware transaction records to align commerce events with HMRC operational and reconciliation needs, using category-aligned order to cash and payment processing terminology.
Integration and operational coverage were coordinated through HMRCs Chief Digital and Information Group and the SAP Practice, with technical design and assurance governed by SAP Functional Leads responsible for SAP ERP Finance and associated SaaS offerings. The work included mapping commerce transactions into HMRC finance processing and reconciliation workflows managed by the SAP estate, aligning identity and access controls with CDIO delivery centres, and instrumenting order data for downstream finance and service teams.
Governance and ongoing support were embedded in HMRCs SAP Practice, with functional leads providing assurance, design oversight and live service business as usual support for the THG Ingenuity deployment. The rollout was managed alongside HMRCs network of digital delivery centres across the United Kingdom, and the program emphasized integration design, operational handover and continuous improvement governed by the Technology, Strategy and Assurance team.

In 2023, Holland & Barrett provisioned THG Ingenuity to handle its eCommerce fulfilment operations. The engagement was framed as a multi year agreement to sustain online growth while Holland & Barrett undertakes a major multi million pound redevelopment of its Burton Distribution Centre. The proposed three year arrangement scoped THG Ingenuity to operate the retailer's digital outbound fulfilment during the rebuild.
THG Ingenuity was configured to deliver core eCommerce fulfilment capabilities aligned to direct to consumer workflows, including order orchestration, pick and pack fulfilment, outbound shipping coordination, and returns processing. The engagement emphasized a digital outbound system to offload peak volume and provide operational throughput while the retailer constructs a new state of the art fulfilment system at Burton. These functional capabilities align with standard eCommerce fulfilment architectures that prioritize order management, warehouse orchestration, and carrier coordination.
Operationally, Holland & Barrett kept Retail and Wholesale fulfilment operations running in Burton while migrating its e commerce fulfilment operation to THG Ingenuity under the proposed three year term. The scope explicitly covered D2C online order fulfilment so that customer deliveries could be maintained as the Burton Distribution Centre is rebuilt. THG Ingenuity therefore became the primary execution layer for Holland & Barrett's online order fulfilment during the redevelopment period.
Governance and rollout included active colleague consultation aimed at minimising redundancies, with transfer pathways to the proposed partner and redeployment opportunities within the Burton site. Company communications linked the implementation to capacity constraints in digital sales and the need to sustain store supply and global deliveries while the new fulfilment infrastructure is constructed. The initiative centers on operational continuity, workforce transition planning, and the integration of THG Ingenuity into Holland & Barrett eCommerce fulfilment operations.
