In 2018 New Balance implemented Workday Absence Management. The deployment was executed as part of a big bang global Workday rollout that unified HCM and payroll capabilities across New Balance, targeting a consolidated approach to absence and workforce management.
Workday Absence Management was configured alongside Workday HCM, Onboarding, Benefits Administration/OE, Advanced Compensation, Talent/Performance/Goals, Recruiting, US Payroll, UK Payroll, Canadian Payroll, Time Tracking, ESS/MSS and mobile access. Configuration work focused on standardizing absence policies, leave accruals, request and approval workflows and time-off integrations consistent with the Absence and Leave Management category, while facilitating conversion of data sourced from multiple systems into the unified Workday HCM data model.
Integrations included an internal and external suite of interfaces and strengthened connections with New Balance financial systems, achieved through collaboration with Workday and IBM. Operational coverage encompassed HR, payroll, benefits and talent functions across New Balance operations with specific payroll configurations for the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, and centralized absence transactions for employee and manager self-service channels.
Project governance was led by an independent senior consultant in an implementation and enablement project management role who augmented the New Balance implementation team, coordinated with Workday and IBM and supported Workday’s Lifecycle Deployment Program LDP. Governance emphasized process standardization, centralized configuration control, cutover planning for the big bang go-live and training and enablement to hand over day to day absence and leave operations to HR and payroll teams.
