In 2018, Node4 implemented SAP Business One as its ERP Financial application to centralize core finance operations. The deployment covered a finance function of five line management team members operating across two sites, Derby and Reading, and supported day to day oversight of payroll, sales ledger, credit control, purchase ledger, VAT calculations and journal entry workflows.
SAP Business One was configured to provide general ledger control, accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, group VAT return calculation and month end reconciliation workflows. The implementation included integration work with payroll systems, specifically Sage 50cloud Payroll, and an implementation and testing engagement with Access SelectPay, establishing payroll posting and payrun validation flows into the ERP Financial ledger.
Operational coverage included processing payroll for approximately 300 employees while maintaining core finance controls, conducting credit checks and approvals for new suppliers and customers, and running regular aged debt analysis. Finance maintained regular liaison with other departments to ensure transactional transparency and alignment of AR and AP processes across the two sites.
Governance responsibilities were formalized around monitoring day to day financial controls, journal entry approvals and monthly reconciliations, and managing group VAT submissions. Explicit outcomes recorded during the period include providing cover for an absent colleague while successfully managing payroll for 300 employees, recruiting and training a new payroll resource, and instituting weekly aged debt reviews with the Credit Controller to create a more proactive collections cadence.
