In 2019 North Dakota State University implemented Sterling Background Check within its PeopleSoft Recruiting environment as part of a broader PeopleSoft 9.2 Recruiting Solutions deployment. The engagement ran from February 2019 to April 2022 and integrated the Sterling Background Check application into recruiting workflows to provide BackGround Screening capabilities directly from recruiter interfaces in PeopleSoft.
Implementation work included architecting and delivering a complex Fluid-based scheduling module that allowed recruiters to send interview dates to applicants and reduce offline communication. The team used Dropzone configuration, Page and Field Configurator, and Event Mapping to minimize customization to delivered objects, and contributed AWE workflow configurations in collaboration with the business analysis team.
Integration scope spanned PeopleSoft Staffing and Finance lines, with a direct Sterling Background Check integration enabling recruiters to initiate screening orders from PeopleSoft. Additional integrations developed during the engagement included PeopleSoft to erecruit VMS vendor interfaces using an Azure service bus, single sign on between erecruit in Azure and PeopleSoft using RPS, a PeopleSoft HR to Symmetry tax lookup for real time tax information by postal address, and linkage of PeopleSoft to the university portal. Operational coverage included Recruiting, HR, Payroll, Billing, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable functional areas.
The program also encompassed an upgrade of PeopleSoft Finance, HR, and Payroll applications from 8.9 to 9.2 and an upgrade of PeopleTools from 8.47 to 8.55. Workstreams retrofitted 8.9 objects to 9.2 in Billing, AR, and AP modules, converted Crystal Report check printing to XML Publisher in PeopleSoft Financials, and delivered a custom Rapid Time Entry page and a payroll processing center dashboard for payroll users.
Governance and delivery emphasized reuse of configuration over code, end to end architecture ownership for the scheduling and screening integration, and tight BA collaboration for workflow changes. The scheduling module and Sterling Background Check integration were completed before the deadline, an explicit outcome that reduced offline work and produced time and cost savings for the client.
