In 2017 PayTrace implemented Paya Payment Processing to add eCheck capability to its platform, addressing a missing payment rail in its gateway offering. PayTrace implemented Paya Payment Processing, a Payment Processing application, to enable eCheck acceptance and accounting integration for merchants sold through its merchant service provider channel. PayTrace is a payment solution provider sold exclusively through merchant service providers and processes credit card payments for small to mid-sized businesses both online and at brick and mortar locations such as doctor offices, retail establishments, and coffee houses.
The deployment used Paya Payment Processing as a modular, standalone payment module that introduced eCheck and ACH originator capabilities into PayTrace's gateway, enabling one time and recurring electronic check workflows. Functionally the implementation included eCheck processing, ACH network routing compliant with Regulation E and NACHA operating rules, encryption of account and transaction data, and digital signature verification to validate account holder details. Configuration work emphasized customization points so resellers and merchant service providers could expose eCheck options and pricing to merchants.
Integration work focused on passing eCheck settlement and remittance data into merchant accounting systems, preserving payment data aggregation for PayTrace customers and resellers. The implementation extended across PayTrace's existing channels, supporting online payment flows as well as in person assisted entry transactions at customer sites. This integration preserved the gateway role of PayTrace while adding an electronic check rail that feeds downstream reconciliation and bookkeeping.
Operationally PayTrace rolled Paya Payment Processing out as a standalone product that partners could white label and quickly implement, matching the stated requirement for rapid, low-friction deployment. Governance centered on configuring payment acceptance rules, ACH return handling, exception workflows, and customer-facing options for recurring billing, shifting manual paper check handling to automated electronic processes. Rollout emphasis was on ease of implementation for resellers and straightforward operational controls for merchant customers.
Explicit benefits called out in the implementation included faster settlement versus paper checks, lower per-transaction costs compared to card-based fees, and reduced transactional risk through encryption and ACH network controls.
