DataRobot Legacy DataRobot AI Platform Generative AI Platforms, Predictive Analytics AI Development n/a 2022 2022
In 2022, Phoenix Children's deployed the DataRobot AI Platform as a Generative AI Platforms,Predictive Analytics solution to automate predictive modeling for clinical and operational decision making. The organization moved from a workflow where a single model required about nine months of manual effort to a model development pipeline that non-data scientists can operate, shortening development cycles and enabling production use cases across the health system. The implementation centered on automated model building and closed-loop augmented AI capabilities within the DataRobot AI Platform, supported by rapid dataset construction using 10 years of hospital data. Functional capabilities included automated feature engineering, model selection and deployment in a few clicks, scoring pipelines that flag patients for clinical review, and operational prediction workflows for appointment no-shows and emergency department volumes. Phoenix Children's deployed the platform on-premise and integrated it with the hospitals Microsoft data and analytics stack, including Microsoft Power BI, with assistance from DataRobot Customer-Facing Data Scientists. The integration brought predictive outputs into clinical review workflows and scheduling operations, enabling nutritionists and scheduling staff to act on model flags and lists generated by the platform. Governance and process changes focused on embedding model-driven alerts into clinician review and administrative outreach workflows, and on closing the loop when a clinician confirms a condition and updates the electronic medical record with diagnosis codes. Outcomes reported from the implementation include identification of four to five at-risk children per week for possible malnutrition, an average daily discovery of about 25 patients not planning to attend appointments leading to roughly 9,000 appointments identified annually that would have been missed, and predictive models for emergency room volume that inform staffing. Phoenix Children's leadership stated the return clinically and financially has far exceeded the cost of the deployment.
