| SAP | Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017 Powerco implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform, replacing Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. The program was executed as a two year utility solution project with an $8m+ budget and a ZAG Project Manager acting as the principal liaison between the Powerco Project Manager, business owners and the ZAG implementation team.
The implementation delivered SAP S/4 HANA across core financial and operational modules, explicitly including EAM, FICO, SD, MM, Geo Enabled Framework GEF, GIS and Data Services. The rollout incorporated templated configuration patterns and activated Fiori applications to automate requisition and purchase order approvals and leave requests, while a mobile work management solution built on Blueworx extended field operations and work order mobility.
Data migration and integration were central to the program, with responsibility for extraction, cleansing and migration of approximately 1.2 million electricity network equipment records for poles, transformers, switches, cables and related fixed assets. These asset records were loaded across eight distinct financial books including tax, corporate and regulatory books, producing a dataset of more than 9 million records in the target environment. The program also managed the cutover of roughly 11,000 work orders and 20,000 open notifications to preserve operational continuity.
Project governance emphasized a structured blueprinting and realisation cadence, with management of over 20 onsite and offsite SAP resources and coordination of third party providers including SAP, Cubic Consulting, Downers and Eastech. A six week proof of concept led to a subsequent $3M+ contract award, and the implementation used templated offerings to consolidate systems, removing six legacy systems from Powerco's IT landscape while aligning work management and capital works processes into the new platform.
Outcomes recorded by the program included full SAP S/4 HANA module go live with GIS and Mobility enabled, successful Geo Enabled Framework integration to SAP noted as one of six implementations across APAC, and a cutover that preserved customer fault records and the capital works program with minimal disruption to services.

Configuration emphasizes standard Applicant Tracking System capabilities, including job requisition publishing, candidate capture and profiling, configurable hiring pipelines, interview scheduling and role based access for recruiters and hiring managers. LiveHire ATS modules are used to surface job listings on the public careers page and to maintain centralized candidate records and application histories.
Operational coverage centers on Talent Acquisition and HR functions within Powerco's New Zealand operations, reflecting the needs of a 500 employee utility. Integrations are realized through embedded careers site delivery and ATS managed recruitment communications and workflows.

| IFS | Legacy | IFS Copperleaf | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020 Powerco implemented IFS Copperleaf, the Copperleaf Decision Analytics Solution, as its Asset Performance Management platform. Powerco is New Zealand’s second-largest electricity and gas distribution utility with approximately 1.1 million customers across 446,000 connections and about 500 employees, and the deployment targeted network investment decision-making and long-term planning processes.
The implementation configured Copperleaf Decision Analytics capabilities to deliver a consistent and transparent approach to network investment decisions, including portfolio valuation, risk and value modelling, scenario-based investment planning, and investment prioritization workflows aligned to customer requirements and Powerco values and objectives. IFS Copperleaf was positioned to centralize investment prioritization and provide a repeatable framework for constrained resource optimization that supports Asset Performance Management practices.
Operational coverage centered on Asset Strategy and Investment and the Investment Optimization function, providing mechanisms to validate investment plans to external stakeholders and regulators and to assure long-term business sustainability by aligning capital plans to defined risk and value criteria. The project emphasized integration into Powerco’s existing asset management processes and established a single decision analytics layer for network-level capital planning across its New Zealand distribution network.
Governance and process changes focused on standardized decision criteria, transparent audit trails for plan justification, and strengthened external validation workflows to meet regulatory scrutiny and shareholder expectations. Stakeholders reported responsive vendor support during delivery, and Powerco positioned IFS Copperleaf as a foundation for ongoing advancements in asset management capability and for meeting emerging ESG and sustainability requirements.
