In 2020, Proton Holdings implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial application to centralize financial control and respond to a company-wide mandate to lower expenses. The IT organization framed the SAP S/4 HANA deployment to minimize professional fees from technology providers while aligning finance operations under a single ERP Financial platform.
The implementation focused on core finance capabilities typical of the ERP Financial category, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial close and reporting configuration within SAP S/4 HANA. Workstreams emphasized master data consolidation, chart of accounts rationalization and month end close automation to standardize financial workflows and reporting.
As part of the program Proton continued support for its existing SAP ERP ECC6 estate, securing personalized maintenance services to preserve a phased approach and flexibility to decide when to migrate fully to SAP S/4 HANA. The engagement delivered a reported 50% reduction in annual support costs and secured maintenance support for the installed SAP ERP, while allowing Proton to control timing of full S/4 HANA migration.
Operational coverage prioritized IT and finance functions across Proton Holdings in Malaysia, with governance changes concentrated on centralized vendor fee management and tighter change control to limit external professional services. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment established core ERP Financial capabilities while providing a cost management and governance framework to sustain ongoing support and future migration planning.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP HCM Benefits | Benefits Administration | HCM | n/a | 2013 | 2013 |
In 2013 Proton Holdings implemented SAP HCM Benefits to centralize Benefits Administration within Human Resource operations. The deployment used SAP HCM Benefits as the primary application for benefits enrollment and eligibility management, aligning Benefits Administration with the company human resources function.
The implementation encompassed SAP HCM functional modules including Personnel Administration, Organizational Management, Time Management, Benefits, Payroll and ESS/MSS. SAP HCM Benefits was configured to leverage shared personnel master data and organizational structures from Personnel Administration and Organizational Management, and to enforce eligibility and enrollment rules that feed payroll posting and time related rules.
Architecturally the solution was delivered inside the SAP HCM landscape, with Benefits configured to interoperate with Payroll and Time Management modules and with Employee Self Service and Manager Self Service for enrolment and life event handling. IT support for the Human Resource Division was formalized to manage expectations and anticipate user needs, providing ongoing application support and configuration updates for the Benefits component of SAP HCM.
Governance and process work focused on close collaboration between the HR division and IT, continuous process improvement of benefits workflows, and rollout of ESS/MSS access to streamline benefit elections and manager approvals. SAP HCM Benefits remained the central system of record for Benefits Administration at Proton Holdings, supported by HR and IT governance structures that emphasize operational support and incremental enhancements.
