In 2015, Puget Sound Energy implemented Sterling Background Check as its BackGround Screening solution. The initiative was aligned with PSE’s broader SaaS HRIS rollout of SAP SuccessFactors, with recruiting and onboarding identified as primary integration targets.
Sterling Background Check was configured to support standard background screening workflows tied into SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting and SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding modules. Functional capabilities implemented included automated screening order initiation from the recruiting module, adjudication status tracking surfaced to hiring managers, and centralized screening result record updates to candidate profiles.
Integration work focused on automated data exchange between Sterling Background Check and SAP SuccessFactors e-Recruiting and Onboarding, with role based access for HR recruiters and hiring managers. Operational coverage centered on PSE’s talent acquisition and HR operations supporting approximately 3,300 employees across the utility, embedding screening into core recruitment and new hire processing.
Project governance was led by a cross functional team spanning IT PMO, Purchasing, and HR, which produced a detailed RFP for background screening and created as-is process documentation to support training and hassle mapping. Vendor performance management and contract maintenance for Sterling Talent Solutions were ongoing responsibilities handled by HR, with primary HR contacts owning UAT and intake workflows for continued maintenance.

In 2017 Puget Sound Energy implemented SAP Enterprise Asset Management. The deployment targeted Enterprise Asset Management to centralize asset master records and transactional maintenance data across utility operations, aligning asset lifecycle and field device information with the SAP EAM data model. Implementation scope emphasized migrating technical, business, and transaction datasets required for core asset management workflows.
SAP Enterprise Asset Management was configured to support asset master maintenance, device and installation records, work order and maintenance execution data, and contract level associations. Data objects migrated included technical master data such as connection object, premise, device location, device, and installation, business master data such as contract and contract account, and transactional data such as meter reads and installation facts. Configuration work focused on mapping source attributes to SAP EAM objects and preparing module-level validation rules to support operational processes.
Data migration followed structured extraction, transform, load processes with defined reconciliation and testing workflows. The program documented migration action plans, performed mapping and GAP analysis to capture business rules, identified data cleansing requirements with business owners, and executed mock load cycles to resolve errors and reprocess records. Testing included data accuracy verification and business matching of migrated objects with support from information stewards and business testers.
Governance established migration work plans, requirements reviews, and cutover sequencing to coordinate go-live activities. Change in workflow centered on data stewardship responsibilities, reconciliation procedures to ensure source to SAP counts, and ongoing coordination between IT and business teams to validate asset and transactional data post-migration. The implementation emphasized operational orchestration of data migration activities and structured testing to enable SAP Enterprise Asset Management to operate as the authoritative asset system.
