| Infor | Legacy | Infor SCM | Supply Chain Management | SCM | n/a | 2009 | 2010 |
In 2009, SAB South Africa implemented Infor SCM, a Supply Chain Management application, to augment its existing ERP solution with a $1.2 million investment. The deployment was scoped to cover the brewer's core distribution and production footprint, targeting 70 warehouses and 12 production plants, with a phase two rollout planned to other SABMiller regions.
The implementation included Infor SCM Demand Planning alongside Infor SCM Advanced Planner and Infor SCM Advanced Scheduler, configured to drive sales and operations planning workflows and shorten planning cycles. Demand Planning was positioned to improve forecast accuracy and visibility of resources, while Advanced Planner and Advanced Scheduler were used to optimize and integrate medium term planning and short term scheduling across five soft drink plants and seven breweries.
Architecturally the Infor SCM deployment augmented the company ERP layer and centralized planning logic rather than decentralizing production by market. Planning logic was configured to evaluate transportation, production and inventory costs to determine the most cost effective plant for producing a given product for a given market, and scheduling capabilities were set up to maintain production continuity during maintenance or to scale capacity for sales promotions.
Operational governance was aligned to S&OP processes, with program management under Rudi Van Schoor driving the rollout and process adoption. SAB expected Infor SCM to increase demand forecast accuracy, improve resource visibility, enhance on time delivery performance and reduce excess inventory, outcomes that were cited as primary objectives for the Supply Chain Management implementation.
