In 2010, The Carlyle Group decided to upgrade its Enterprise Resource Planning system and committed to deploy Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise and Hyperion Performance Management across its global operations, implementing Oracle PeopleSoft ERP as its ERP Financial system. The Carlyle Group migrated off Microsoft Dynamics SL and set a one year timeline to have Oracle PeopleSoft ERP live by January 1, 2011.
The implementation focused on ERP Financial capabilities typical of PeopleSoft, including core general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed asset accounting, financial close orchestration, and Hyperion-driven consolidation and performance management for corporate reporting. Configuration work emphasized chart of accounts harmonization, financial close workflows, and automation of intercompany postings and control tables to align global accounting processes.
To meet the aggressive timeline Carlyle decided against in-house hosting and required a managed service provider to host the PeopleSoft environment, provide 24 X 7 management, and deliver disaster recovery capabilities along with strict confidentiality and SLA commitments. The company executed a structured RFP and solicited proposals from Oracle on Demand, IBM, Cedar Crestone, Mind Tree, and Dell Services, and it asked its integration partner Accenture for a proposal, evaluating price, client feedback, SLA terms and timetables as deciding factors.
Governance and rollout planning prioritized contractual SLAs, legal protections for data confidentiality, and a staged deployment into finance and accounting functions across Carlyle’s global footprint to satisfy the January 1, 2011 go-live objective. The hosting decision was explicitly driven by the desire to avoid building internal PeopleSoft hosting expertise and to secure an external provider willing to meet the required disaster recovery, support, and contractual terms.

| LlamaIndex | Legacy | LlamaIndex | AI Frameworks and Libraries | AI Development | n/a | 2024 | 2024 |
In 2024, The Carlyle Group implemented LlamaIndex to support its finance and investment research workflows. LlamaIndex is deployed as part of the firms AI tooling under the AI Frameworks and Libraries category and was used to construct retrieval-augmented generation pipelines for document-centered analytics.
The implementation specifically leveraged LlamaParse within LlamaIndex to ingest and parse complex investment documents, preserving nested tables, spatial layouts, and embedded images to maintain higher fidelity document representations. Parsed outputs were indexed to support RAG pipelines, with structured extraction and document segmentation to preserve context across multi-page filings and research reports.
Deployment covered finance and investment research teams across the firm and integrated parsed document indexes into advanced analytics and research workflows, improving document handling and data integrity as stated. Governance efforts concentrated on parsing configuration, indexing standards, and access controls for parsed assets to ensure consistent data fidelity for downstream RAG and analytics use cases.
