| Broadcom | Legacy | Broadcom CA DX Unified Infrastructure Management | Application Performance Management | ITSM | n/a | 2011 | 2011 | In 2011, the University of Chicago implemented Broadcom CA DX Unified Infrastructure Management for Application Performance Management. The deployment established a centralized, service centric IT monitoring architecture across servers, networks, VoIP, data center infrastructure and business services in the United States. The implementation followed a phased sequence beginning with ping checks, progressing to SNMP based device monitoring, and culminating in consolidated service views that mapped business services to underlying infrastructure. Broadcom CA DX Unified Infrastructure Management was configured to monitor and correlate metrics from server and network layers, VoIP systems, data center infrastructure, and defined business services, enabling end to end visibility and standard operational workflows for alerting and escalation. Operational ownership resided with campus IT operations, which used the platform to centralize event detection and incident triage across campus sites in the United States. The project reported measurable reductions in outages and faster incident triage, and improved hardware uptime to around 99.95 percent. Rollout governance used the phased approach to sequence onboarding of device classes and service mappings, allowing campus teams to validate monitoring and refine escalation procedures as visibility expanded. The configuration of service views and centralized monitoring informed operational practices for incident response and availability management across the university. |

| Cisco Systems | Legacy | Cisco WebEx Messenger | Collaboration | Collaboration | n/a | 2012 | 2012 | In 2012 The University of Chicago participated in Cisco's WebEx Social for Higher Education pilot that included Cisco WebEx Messenger, implementing the application to support Collaboration for campus users in the United States. The initiative focused on enabling real-time collaboration, presence and virtual meeting capabilities for faculty, staff and students through the Cisco WebEx Messenger component of the WebEx Social offering. Cisco WebEx Messenger was configured to provide presence signaling, instant messaging, synchronous meeting initiation and virtual meeting access, aligning with common Collaboration functional workflows for higher education. The deployment followed a campus pilot architecture model with user endpoints connecting to Cisco WebEx Social services, emphasizing in-session collaboration and presence across campus networks. Because Cisco explicitly included WebEx Messenger in the WebEx Social offering, WebEx Messenger usage is inferred from the Cisco press release, and the University of Chicago was moving from pilot toward broader adoption in late 2012 along with other institutions, with rollout planning oriented around campus user enablement and higher education collaboration workflows. |
