| OpenAI | Legacy | OpenAI GPT-4 | Generative AI Platforms | AI Development | n/a | 2023 | 2023 |
In 2023, Trend Micro implemented OpenAI GPT-4 as part of a strategic adoption of Generative AI Platforms within its Applied Threat Intelligence organization. The implementation was driven by the Lead AI and Data Engineer and targeted production AI services that support multiple downstream applications used by over 50 team members and integrations reaching more than 5,000 enterprise users.
The deployed solution centered on a GPT-based application leveraging OpenAI GPT-4, ChatGPT and Davinci model access, with the LangChain framework used for agent orchestration. Functional modules implemented include Retrieval Augmented Generation, SQL Agents, Search Agents and Multi-Chain Agents, alongside pipelines for building and fine tuning open source foundational models such as LLaMa, Alpaca, Instruct-GPT and Falcon; a Python FastAPI backend was developed to handle large datasets and scale inference and data flows.
Data and MLOps infrastructure integrated Databricks, AWS SageMaker Studio and Mosaic ML for model development and training, and used Apache PySpark, AWS Athena, Glue Data Catalog, an AWS Data Lake, EMR, Kinesis and Firehose for streaming and batch pipelines. A data warehouse on AWS Redshift was implemented with sort and distribution optimization, runtime deployment used Elastic Beanstalk hosting on EC2 and S3, and CI CD pipelines were managed in Jenkins; a semantic layer was built using Semantic Ontology, RDF, SPARQL, OWL inference engines, Ontotext and GraphDB to enable efficient semantic queries and analytics.
Governance and operationalization were formalized through a new MLOps framework that structured model lifecycle, CI CD and deployment processes, and the engineering team led training and production deployment of LLMs. Explicit outcomes reported in the implementation include an exploit prediction capability achieving 81 percent accuracy, documented AWS resource optimization and cost savings from centralized resource management, and support for large scale events including infrastructure that hosted over 1,000 Capture the Flag teams.
