In 2017, Unum Group implemented Workday Financial Management as a cloud-based ERP Financial solution and migrated financial records from Oracle PeopleSoft ERP. The implementation encompassed core financial capabilities consistent with an ERP Financial deployment, including general ledger consolidation, accounts payable processing, expense management, and procurement workflows. Configuration work addressed multi-entity chart of accounts and workflow automation for expense and procurement approvals to align with corporate finance controls. Integrations were executed to link Workday Financial Management with Unum Group's existing Workday-based HR environment, leveraging shared employee master data, compensation and benefits information, and HR service delivery touchpoints noted in prior HR operations. Data migration and reconciliation from Oracle PeopleSoft ERP were part of the program to preserve historical financial records and transactional continuity. Program governance focused on harmonizing expense and procurement policy administration across regions referenced in HR operations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, and on updating cross-functional workflows between finance and HR. Change activities included creation of consolidated policy documentation and coordination between finance and HR teams to support new Workday Financial Management processes.

In 2015, Unum Group implemented Workday Absence Management as a core Absence and Leave Management capability within its HR estate. The deployment automated absence tracking and approvals across HR operations and established a services-oriented model that became the foundation for HR Connect. Workday Absence Management was configured to standardize leave request workflows, eligibility rules, absence balances, approvals and reporting, aligning with standard Absence and Leave Management functional patterns. Automation reduced manual case handling through system-driven leave calculations and workflow orchestration inside Workday, enabling consistent processing of absence events and centralized recordkeeping. Following the 2015 implementation, Unum built HR Connect Services on top of the Workday Absence Management deployment. Unum now provides HR Connect Services for more than 110 mutual customers actively using the service and another 70 currently implementing streamlined processes such as Absence, Evidence of Insurance, Billing and Enrolment, with centralized governance and standardized process templates for HR operations, benefits administration, billing and enrolment to support repeatable rollouts.

Architecturally the project emphasized SOA integration, delivering tighter integration between the front-office portal and back-office systems to enable continuous transaction processing. Operational coverage was United States customer and field-office servicing, bringing customer-service, underwriting touchpoints and billing operations under unified BPM governance and improving service delivery across offices.
