In 2015 Weir Group implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as part of a global SAP initiative for Weir Minerals, aiming to consolidate multiple regional systems into a single platform. The deployment targeted an ERP Financial footprint aligned to SAP Best Practices for Industrial Machinery and Components with an explicit objective of zero customization following a 2014 business case.
The implemented architecture includes ERP EHP7 running on an SAP HANA database, Extended Warehouse Management on HANA as part of SAP SCM, and BW for consolidations with BI on HANA. NetWeaver gateway was provisioned to enable Fiori user interfaces and SAP GRC was incorporated to address governance and control requirements.
The global SAP landscape was integrated with cloud systems, including SuccessFactors, C4C, S and OP and I2B, creating a hybrid on premises core with connected cloud HR, CX and planning tools. Prior to the program Weir Minerals operated around 20 distinct ERP systems, including two different SAP versions across Australia and Europe, and the initiative centralized those operational silos into a unified SAP environment.
Operational management was structured in Malaysia with two dedicated teams, the Minerals Application Support Team providing live system support and the SAP Deployment Team managing rollouts and configuration changes, led by Technical Solution Director Rozman Shariff. Governance emphasized adherence to SAP Best Practices for IMC, minimal customization, and a separation of responsibilities between live support and deployment to control change and maintain the standardized ERP Financial configuration.

In 2018, Weir Group implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a global Workday programme that delivered Core HCM, Compensation and Absence in phase 1. The Workday Absence Management deployment aligns to the Absence and Leave Management category and was executed alongside a dedicated data migration stream.
As Workday Absence Management was configured, the programme established a data migration team responsible for data analysis, cleansing of poor quality records, and data conversions to populate Workday. Configuration work focused on standard absence and leave functional capabilities such as absence types, entitlement rules, eligibility and absence balances, integrated with core employee master data from Core HCM.
Integrations and operational coverage included the Core HCM and Compensation modules delivered in phase 1, and coordination with Programme, Implementation Partner and BAU teams to align master data and business processes across multiple regions. External consultants including Ernst & Young conducted an independent audit of data processes to validate controls and compliance.
Governance and control activities were led by the Global Workday Data Migration Lead who owned migration planning and execution, data privacy compliance, proactive risk and issue management and stakeholder relationships. Responsibilities explicitly included building and developing the migration team, executing data conversions into Workday, and ensuring solutions met compliance and data privacy requirements.

In 2021, Weir Group deployed 42Q Digital Factory, a Manufacturing Execution System (MES), to digitize shop floor operations across its regional plants. The implementation used 42Q Digital Factory hosted on AWS as a central cloud MES to provide standardized shop floor control and operational visibility for Weir Minerals across the Weir Group global footprint.
The deployment emphasized modules for shop floor control, traceability, and analytics integration, with configuration to capture real time production events, work order execution status, and component genealogy. 42Q Digital Factory was configured to centralize production routing, capture serial and lot traceability, and expose operational telemetry for downstream analysis.
Integration workstreams linked 42Q Digital Factory to Weir's ERP and BI systems to synchronize work orders, inventory status, and analytical datasets, enabling consolidated reporting and cross system reconciliation. The solution architecture centralized processing on AWS while preserving plant level configurations and data collection at each regional site.
Governance and rollout were organized to align shop floor processes, data models, and connectivity standards across regional plants, establishing a single source of operational truth in 42Q Digital Factory. Reported program outcomes included a reduction in manufacturing lead times by about 30 percent and an improvement in on time delivery by approximately 10 percent.
