AeroVironment | Aerospace and Defense | 3750 | $820M | United States | Dassault Systemes | Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM | Product Master Data Management | 2020 | n/a |
In 2020, AeroVironment implemented Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM as its Product Master Data Management platform. The deployment established a centralized product master data repository to govern CAD assets, engineering documentation, and bill of materials across engineering and manufacturing functions at AeroVironment.
Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM configuration emphasized core Product Master Data Management capabilities, including secure vaulting of CAD files, version and revision control, structured bill of materials management, metadata schemas for item classification, and automated engineering change order workflows. The implementation included role based access controls, permissioned check in and check out, search and indexing for rapid part and document retrieval, and workflow automation for approval routing and revision sign off.
Operational coverage focused on engineering, configuration management, manufacturing engineering, procurement document control, and quality engineering. The system was connected to authoring and downstream systems through standard connector and API patterns to support CAD file exchange, BOM handoff, and document publishing, preserving traceability between design artifacts and production records.
Governance centered on formalizing data ownership, revision control policies, and change control procedures within the Product Master Data Management program. Deployment followed phased adoption with configuration of templates and workflows, role based training for engineering and manufacturing users, and established governance checkpoints to enforce naming, metadata, and approval standards.

Eastman Chemical | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 14000 | $9.4B | United States | Dassault Systemes | Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM | Product Master Data Management | 2021 | n/a |
In 2021, Eastman Chemical implemented Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM. The deployment was centered in Eastman’s internal Machine Design Center of Excellence, using Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM as its Product Master Data Management solution to govern mechanical CAD assets, part data and job tracking.
Engineering leads configured the SolidWorks PDM environment to enforce document control, versioning, CAD file management and workflow automation, and they designed processes and templates to standardize part release and change workflows. Responsibility for the day to day operation of Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM rested with the Machine Design Center of Excellence, which created global templates and operational procedures that are being used around the globe.
The program included coordination with IT to design a secure 3D printer network architecture to deploy new 3D printing platforms, and it incorporated asset tracking, operator training and job scheduling for additive manufacturing workflows. Operational coverage extended to multiple US sites including Kingsport Tennessee, Martinsville Virginia, Springfield Massachusetts and Palo Alto California, supporting Performance Films projects, manufacturing trials and plant engineering activities.
Governance and rollout were led by internal design and manufacturing engineering staff who designed and conducted instructor led training across multiple locations and who serve as mentors for newer designers. The SolidWorks PDM instance supports machine design, plant engineering and manufacturing trial workflows through standardized templates, controlled release processes and centralized CAD data management.

Sofis | Manufacturing | 100 | $25M | Netherlands | Dassault Systemes | Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM | Product Master Data Management | 2020 | n/a |
In 2020, Sofis implemented Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM as a Product Master Data Management solution for Sofis Valve Operations in Alphen aan den Rijn. The initiative established a controlled repository for CAD assets and product master records to support finance, operations, sales and service functions across the manufacturing business unit.
The Dassault Systemes SolidWorks PDM deployment focused on core Product Master Data Management capabilities including CAD file management, revision and version control, BOM synchronization and workflow automation for approvals and change control. Configuration activities included user setup and authorizations, test plan execution and validation of check in check out and revision workflows, with data preparation and Power BI reporting enabled by extensive Power Query use.
Integrations were implemented with the broader application landscape, explicitly linking SolidWorks PDM via PLM integrations to Excel, To-Increase, service tools, Lasernet Formpipe and Power BI. The PDM workstreams ran alongside a concurrent ERP program, which delivered Microsoft Dynamics 365 SCM / F&O with a go-live on April 1, 2024, and the PDM integration patterns were designed to support ERP master data synchronization and downstream reporting.
Governance and rollout were managed through a Project Steering Committee and a core project team of five members, with responsibilities covering project planning, risk management, change management, testing, training and management of Azure DevOps for project tasks. Ownership transitioned to the internal support organization, and the ERP Project Manager / Business Controller acted as the linchpin between business process owners, IT and end users during configuration, integrations and handover.
