In 2020, Energy Transfer implemented IRI CoSort as part of an Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) initiative to support its large commercial Natural and Adabas application stack. Energy Transfer operates over 130,000 miles of pipeline in the United States and exports natural gas liquids globally, providing the operational scale that drove the upgrade and stabilization work for core data processing components.
The implementation focused on upgrading and configuring IRI CoSort alongside upgrades to Adabas, Natural, and related Software AG products, plus a Linux operating system refresh and Cronus software updates. IRI CoSort was positioned to handle high performance sort, transformation, and data shaping workflows typical of Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) use cases, while the broader technical stack changes were coordinated to maintain application availability.
Integrations and deployment architecture included close coupling with the Adabas and Natural environment and migration to a new server, with the project requiring secure remote operations at customer sites. The project team operated via a locked down VPN to manage configuration and cutover activities, and the migration to the new server was completed on the go live day within an acceptable time window.
Governance and delivery relied on Software AG Professional Services to install and configure the upgraded components and coordinate the cutover. The engagement completed the overall project on budget and according to the time plan, and the remote team collaboration through the locked down VPN was cited as successful.
