ALER Milano | Construction and Real Estate | 910 | $300M | Italy | Matrix42 | Matrix42 Software Asset Management | Hardware Asset Management (HAM),Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM),SaaS Spend Management | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022 ALER Milano implemented Matrix42 Software Asset Management to centralize control of software and hardware assets. The deployment addressed needs across Hardware Asset Management (HAM),Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM),SaaS Spend Management and established a single record of software entitlements and installed inventory for the organization.
The implementation configured Matrix42 Software Asset Management with canonical inventory and license reconciliation capabilities, software metering, entitlement tracking, and SaaS subscription visibility consistent with SAM and SaaS Spend Management workflows. Configuration work focused on asset lifecycle records, standardized asset attributes, and automated discovery schedules to maintain continuous inventory data for Windows Server hosts and endpoint estate.
Integrations were executed with the existing infrastructure tooling explicitly listed by ALER Milano, including Windows Server and Active Directory, Office 365 administration feeds, ATERA monitoring, Lansweeper discovery, Matrix42 Inventory, and the SCCM inventory channel. Operational coverage included the Central Milan IT administration team and first and second level Help Desk teams, aligning asset records with support tickets and application support rosters.
Governance and process adjustments emphasized role based access to asset records through Active Directory, formalized ticket to asset linkage for incident and request handling, and ownership assignment within IT operations and application support. The narrative centers on Matrix42 Software Asset Management as the application instrumenting asset control across ALER Milano IT infrastructure and support functions.

Group of the North German Society for Diaconia | Healthcare | 100 | $12M | Germany | Matrix42 | Matrix42 Software Asset Management | Hardware Asset Management (HAM),Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM),SaaS Spend Management | 2013 | n/a |
In 2013, the Norddeutsche Gesellschaft für Diakonie Group deployed Matrix42 Empirum as the software distribution foundation and subsequently began rolling out Matrix42 Software Asset Management to formalize license management. The implementation was driven by NGF Service GmbH and supported by Matrix42 experts and the partner lmbit, and it targeted the Group’s highly decentralized environment across more than 300 locations.
The technical implementation combined Matrix42 Empirum for centralized software distribution with Matrix42 Software Asset Management for license and contract lifecycle management, establishing a centralized database and continuous inventory checks as core components. Functional capabilities implemented included automated software distribution, online device inventory, multilayered location synchronizations with decoupling to reflect the two pronged organizational structure, patch management for servers and clients, and historization of license procurement records. The narrative explicitly maps to Hardware Asset Management (HAM),Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM),SaaS Spend Management and the Matrix42 Software Asset Management application is the focal system for those functions.
Operational coverage encompassed roughly 4,000 computers and notebooks used by about 5,500 employees, managed by a 25 person IT organization coordinating across administrative departments, training centers, workshops, residential groups and other social services sites. Integration work consolidated multiple data sources into the centralized inventory, enabled automated location roaming so software could be deployed to devices at any site, and accounted for varied procurement authorizations including education and government licensing. The project required special handling for training room reinstallations and low bandwidth sites, and ongoing system optimizations have included adding patch management services.
Governance and process changes centered on centralized license procurement and restructured lifecycle processes, with efforts to automate internal license billing while maintaining separated cost center authorizations and a complete historization of who procured which licenses and when. The NGD Group used the available inventory checks to prepare for and pass a Microsoft audit in 2015 and 2016, and the organization reports quicker updates, optimized processes, time savings and cost reductions as direct implementation outcomes. System maintenance and functional expansions continue as part of operational governance.

Sprinkenhof | Construction and Real Estate | 250 | $30M | Germany | Matrix42 | Matrix42 Software Asset Management | Hardware Asset Management (HAM),Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM),SaaS Spend Management | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Sprinkenhof implemented Matrix42 Software Asset Management. The deployment targeted Hardware Asset Management (HAM),Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM),SaaS Spend Management and addressed the need to standardize a previously heterogeneous IT environment while preparing for ISO/IEC 27001 certification.
The initial implementation began with Empirum for unified inventory and asset lifecycle management and included the rollout of License and Contract Management in 2018. Over the following three years Sprinkenhof extended Matrix42 Software Asset Management with patch management, mobile device management using the Silverback Mobile Device Management module, and workflows to automate Windows 10 image and software installation, while Matrix42 EgoSecure Data Protection entered a final phase before full rollout.
Operational integration included a ticketing system configured to onboard external partners and provide transparent service tracking, with ticket access extended to three customers to monitor contract and service levels. The implementation linked device serial numbers and SIM assignments to individual employees to simplify onboarding and offboarding, and provided IT staff and business decision makers such as financial controllers with consolidated visibility into hardware and software inventories.
Governance and process transformation were driven by ITIL aligned process definitions and Matrix42’s workflow design interface, which Sprinkenhof used to codify personnel and IT service processes. Automation within Matrix42 Software Asset Management was explicitly used to satisfy many ISO/IEC 27001 requirements with minimal manual effort, and Sprinkenhof achieved ISO/IEC 27001 certification in February 2020. The rollout was executed with implementation support from Imbit GmbH and continued as an ongoing process to extend modules and refine workflows.
Explicit outcomes documented by Sprinkenhof include a Windows 10 rollout, standardized employee equipment and accelerated IT processes, plus increased transparency over the IT estate. Matrix42 Software Asset Management serves as the central ITAM and workspace orchestration layer for Sprinkenhof’s IT organization in Hamburg, supporting device, software and service lifecycle management.
