Minsur | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 1753 | $781M | Peru | Minespider | Minespider | Blockchain Platform | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Minsur implemented Minespider, a Blockchain Platform developed together with the German company Minespider, to trace all tin production and verify provenance across its value chain. The deployment aligns with Minsur’s SusTINable brand and its 2030 sustainability plan, which emphasizes health and safety, environmental care, responsible governance, and creation of shared value with employees, suppliers, and communities.
The Minespider implementation uses a decentralized ledger architecture where each record is converted into an encrypted digital tag and chained into blocks that are distributed to platform participants for collective validation. Implemented functional capabilities include tag based provenance recording, immutable trace logs, multi stakeholder validation workflows, and traceability reporting to support supply chain transparency and compliance.
Operational scope covers end to end tin value chain participants, including producers, traders, manufacturers, and downstream customers, enabling companies that trade and transform tin to demonstrate that material sources are not associated with violence or Human Rights violations. The implementation impacts business functions such as supply chain management, procurement, sustainability reporting, compliance, and commercial trading.
Governance is structured around decentralized validation by all platform users, enabling immediate detection of tampering and encouraging data sharing among actors who previously operated in silos. Minsur’s use of Minespider strengthens transparency of its value chain, positions the company as the first mining company to apply blockchain to verify the source of all its tin production, and serves as a disruptive provenance solution aimed at reducing the financing of violent groups through improved verification.

TEMSA | Manufacturing | 1800 | $800M | Turkey | Minespider | Minespider | Blockchain Platform | 2024 | n/a |
In 2024 TEMSA partnered with Minespider to implement Minespider, a Blockchain Platform, to capture battery lifecycle data and establish Battery Passports required by the EU Battery Regulation. The engagement explicitly covers a Battery Regulation Readiness assessment, consultancy on mandated data elements, integration of the Minespider platform with existing TEMSA software, provisioning of digital Product Passports and the Open Battery Passport, and deployment of an initial Battery Passport for an exemplary battery model.
Minespider is being used to provide immutable supply chain data provenance and digital identification of battery materials through the digital Product Passports and the Open Battery Passport. The Battery Passport functions as an electronic record that aggregates technical specifications, sustainability attributes, usage histories, and Life Cycle Assessment and carbon footprint declarations for each battery, consistent with the EU Battery Regulation requirements.
Integration work focuses on connecting Minespider with TEMSA operational systems to populate the Battery Passports, the scope touching manufacturing traceability, procurement inputs, product engineering data, and compliance reporting. The project is scoped to start with a single exemplary battery model and then scale the Minespider Battery Passports throughout TEMSA operations, reflecting the companys footprint across 70 countries and its need to comply in EU jurisdictions.
Governance and rollout planning include the readiness assessment outputs, defined data capture workflows, and crossfunctional responsibilities between engineering, procurement, sustainability, and compliance teams. The implementation timeline notes the regulatory compliance horizon, with Battery Passports becoming obligatory 42 months after the regulation enters into force, which sets compliance enforcement beginning February 2027.

Volkswagen | Automotive | 639608 | $380.7B | Germany | Minespider | Minespider | Blockchain Platform | 2019 | n/a |
In 2019 Volkswagen began a pilot with Minespider to trace the lead supply chain from point of origin to factory, deploying Minespider as a Blockchain Platform to support Group Procurement and cross-border material due diligence. The pilot targeted lead used in starter batteries and involved suppliers and sub-suppliers responsible for more than two thirds of the Group’s total lead starter battery requirements, with data capture starting in April 2019 and endpoints defined as mines or recycling sources.
Minespider was implemented as a proprietary protocol built on a public blockchain, instrumented with a multi-layer architecture that separates generally accessible information, private immutable data blocks, and an encryption layer. The implementation included issuance of digital certificates to trace raw material back to point of origin, and a protocol design that preserves data immutability while restricting access to sensitive supply chain details.
Operationally the solution established a single digital infrastructure for suppliers, sub-suppliers, mining operators, and recyclers to exchange provenance information across multiple supply chains, enabling consistent traceability workflows for lead and a template for additional raw materials. Integration scope focused on supplier and sub-supplier onboarding and end-to-end traceability workflows across international production sites, without introducing named enterprise application integrations.
Governance for the pilot was positioned within Group Procurement as a framework-setting exercise to define broader collaboration rules, data ownership and access layering for subsequent rollouts. Volkswagen stated the intent to use blockchain to make processes more transparent and secure, and the Minespider Blockchain Platform was positioned as the technical backbone to extend traceability to further raw materials after the pilot.
