American Geophysical Union | Non Profit | 400 | $57M | United States | Rackspace Technology | Rackspace Application Modernization | Professional Services | 2020 | n/a |
In 2020, the American Geophysical Union implemented Rackspace Application Modernization under a Professional Services engagement to consolidate and modernize its public web presence. The project centralized more than 70 WordPress sites and approximately 70,000 pages into a single Sitecore Experience Platform instance running on Amazon Web Services, delivering a simplified content estate and a more coherent content delivery architecture.
Rackspace Application Modernization deployed a fully scaled XP1 Sitecore platform across multiple environments, following Sitecore best practices for content delivery, dynamic personalization, analytics capture and editorial workflow. The implementation included developer endpoints and a DevOps-aligned process with dedicated dev and staging environments as part of a highly available production topology, enabling faster page updates and improved editorial operations.
The solution architecture integrated Sitecore Experience Platform with AWS infrastructure and was paired with Rackspace Managed Security Services, including the Proactive Detection and Response service and Rackspace Security Essentials for continuous monitoring and rapid remediation of threats. Operational scope encompassed content teams, digital editors and developer operations supporting the AGU global audience and multi-channel publishing.
Governance changes included standardized Sitecore configuration, adoption of DevOps practices for deployment and monitoring, and 24x7x365 platform management by Rackspace Technology. Outcomes explicitly achieved include consolidation of 70,000 pages into one content management system, a more stable and easier to manage website, improved personalization and analytics capabilities, and on-time completion followed by organization-wide managed security coverage.

Carrier Global | Manufacturing | 53000 | $22.1B | United States | Rackspace Technology | Rackspace Application Modernization | Professional Services | 2021 | n/a |
In 2021, Carrier Global engaged Rackspace Technology to implement Rackspace Application Modernization under the Professional Services category. The engagement began after Carrier spun off from its parent company and focused on modernizing the infrastructure and applications that support its IoT thermostat business.
The implementation established a cloud native platform intended to serve as the foundation for Carrier's entire connected device portfolio, emphasizing scalable microservices patterns, containerization, and automated infrastructure provisioning. Rackspace Application Modernization work included platform configuration for device telemetry ingestion, device management capabilities, and CI/CD enablement to accelerate software delivery for connected products.
Integrations connected the new platform to Carrier's installed thermostat fleet and to existing application ecosystems, enabling centralized device management and telemetry aggregation for operational teams. Operational scope targeted product engineering and device operations functions that manage connected devices and firmware or application updates.
Governance and rollout used the Rackspace Application Modernization platform as a standardized delivery layer for new device development and operations, with a focus on reducing technical debt and strengthening security. Outcomes reported from the effort include reduced technical debt, increased security, a reduction in infrastructure provisioning time from 35 days to 30 minutes and a 45 percent reduction in infrastructure costs.

Echelon Fitness | Distribution | 300 | $120M | United States | Rackspace Technology | Rackspace Application Modernization | Professional Services | 2019 | Onica by Rackspace Technology |
In 2019 Echelon Fitness implemented Rackspace Application Modernization as a Professional Services engagement with Rackspace Technology and Onica by Rackspace Technology to modernize its cloud streaming and mobile application platform. The engagement focused on stabilizing and scaling the consumer streaming experience and native iOS and Android applications to serve users in the United States, Canada, France, Germany and the United Kingdom while addressing regional security requirements.
Rackspace Application Modernization delivered a cloud native streaming architecture built on Amazon Web Services, using AWS Elastic Beanstalk with automatic scaling groups to elastically scale web application tiers. Functional capabilities implemented included application modernization, security strategy, security operations, and application delivery, enabling rapid rollout of a full streaming solution in a three month window and supporting an increase from four to between 20 and 50 live classes per day.
Integrations were explicitly centered on AWS platform services, including Amazon CloudFront for global content delivery of live and on demand video, and Amazon S3 Glacier for automated, encrypted long term backups and disaster recovery lifecycle management. Onica by Rackspace Technology provided hands on delivery and architecture guidance to correct scaling issues, implement lifecycle policies, and advise on security controls, while the modernization program laid groundwork for subsequent integration of AWS machine learning services for recommendations and subtitle generation.
Governance and operational scope covered engineering, streaming operations, and content production workflows, with a disaster recovery plan and data separation policies to protect customer fitness data. Outcomes reported include restoring stable live stream capacity to handle 10,000 or more attendees, scaling to host over two million classes by December 2020 from 800,000 in 2019, and identified cost optimizations that reduced running costs by $25,000 per month.
