In 2021, AC Transit deployed Tenable Cloud Security as a centralized Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB) capability to extend enterprise network security controls into cloud and hybrid environments. The Tenable Cloud Security implementation covered AC Transit enterprise network and critical infrastructure including LAN, WAN and special data center connections, and systems supporting the Tempo Bus Rapid Transit project in Oakland California. The deployment was led by the primary network engineer and the network security engineering team responsible for architecture, configuration and operational continuity.
Tenable Cloud Security was configured to provide cloud access governance, visibility across cloud assets and policy enforcement aligned with Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB) functional patterns. The implementation incorporated standardized workflows for asset discovery, vulnerability alignment and centralized policy orchestration, and was configured to feed automated alerts and role based access control policies into existing operations. Configuration work emphasized integration with established network security practices to maintain consistent access controls across cloud and on premise infrastructure.
The AC Transit Tenable Cloud Security deployment was integrated with the existing security stack including Fortinet firewalls, Alert Logic monitoring, Varonis data security controls and Dameware administration tools to support unified security operations. Integrations focused on sharing telemetry for vulnerability prioritization, aligning firewall access rules with cloud access policies and forwarding events into monitoring and QA processes used by the network engineering team.
Governance and rollout followed a QA driven process, leveraging test procedures and submittal reviews authored by the network engineering lead, with formalized access management and contractor facility access practices. Training, supervision and oversight were applied to the network security and network engineering teams, and configuration coordination extended to routers, switches and firewall upgrades executed as part of the broader infrastructure program.
The broader network engineering program that included Tenable Cloud Security documented infrastructure changes designed to achieve 99.999% uptime for most systems and implemented an enterprise quality of service solution meeting industry expectations for latency and jitter.
