FMV (Forces Motrices Valaisannes) Utilities 200 $277M Switzerland SAP SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial 2019 Neo technologies In 2019 FMV, Forces Motrices Valaisannes, implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform to establish a solid IT and ERP foundation aligned with the FMV 2.0 initiative C. The program was initiated to digitalize core processes across FMV’s production, supraregional distribution and electricity trading activities in the canton of Valais and to prepare for sector changes such as smart meter deployment and the planned market opening in 2023. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment covered core functional modules including Finance, Controlling, Purchase, RH and Project management, with SAP Analytic Cloud SAC included for analytics and reporting. The rollout used the FIORI user interface to improve user experience and neo technologies adapted S/4 HANA to the context of a local SME, configuring standard financial and controlling workflows, procure to pay, core HR administration and project accounting capabilities. Integration and operational scope focused on automating interfaces and improving data flows to enable information exchange with internal and external partners and to administer all group companies. The implementation emphasized an ERP architecture intended to be extensible to future energy use cases such as virtual power plant orchestration, energy services and blockchain enabled processes, and included SAC for consolidated analytics and management reporting. Governance followed a formal tender process, with neo technologies selected at the end of 2018 as system integrator and retained for implementation. The project emphasized close proximity between FMV’s internal project team and the neo technologies team, and neo reported rapid implementation on an ambitious schedule while delivering an adapted SAP S/4 HANA configuration and an enhanced FIORI experience.
AEW Energie Utilities 300 $50M Switzerland SAP SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial 2019 Q_PERIOR In 2019, AEW Energie launched a full-scale SAP S/4 HANA transformation to replace SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and modernize its core enterprise platform within the ERP Financial category, with the implementation based on vendor SAP. The design phase ran from August 2019 to March 2020 and the implementation phase on SAP S/4 HANA release 1909 completed in November 2021, with the system going live on January 1, 2022. The implementation covered the utilities industry solution IS-U as the core division, HR which was carried largely unchanged, and a broad redesign and implementation of FI, CO, MM, SD and PS modules. SAP PS was introduced to replace internal orders, and the project implemented a new database model and SAP FIORI user interface at scale to improve usability and increase automation across processes. AEW adopted a hybrid greenfield fit gap approach during the concept phase, standardizing processes where possible and retaining specific industry and HR solutions where appropriate. The cut over was staged, starting with maintenance in December 2021 and followed by logistics, finance and HR management in January 2022, enabling phased adoption of the SAP S/4 HANA platform and parallel migration of management reporting. Q_PERIOR acted as general contractor with four subcontractors Horvath & Partner, Aveniq, BTC and Process Partner, delivering approximately 5,800 consultant days and a project team of more than 50 consultants with a core team of around 20. Governance combined comprehensive project management and integrated change management, with continuous business stakeholder involvement and active senior management sponsorship to drive rapid decision making and a consistent return to SAP standard. By going live with SAP S/4 HANA AEW Energie achieved consolidation and simplification of business processes, reduction of custom developments and interfaces, introduction of new management reporting for corporate management and increased process automation through end to end process mapping. The deployment established a modern ERP Financial platform intended as the technology foundation for the next 10 to 15 years and provided a structured cleanup of legacy issues while enabling future innovation.
