The rollout occurred in the context of business integration activity following the acquisition of Dorset Cereals, positioning Cognos as the primary reporting layer across Finance and Commercial functions. The implementation combined IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence reporting with a TM1 planning layer, following an upgrade of commercial planning systems from Adaytum to TM1. TM1 functionality was expanded to cover sales order management, risk and opportunities planning, and AR/AP commercial spend management, while a Master Data project was run in parallel to stabilize dimensions and reference data used by both planning and reporting. Technical architecture centered on SQL Server as the enterprise data store, with ETL pipelines and DTS business logic feeding Cognos reports and TM1 cubes. The environment included ERP integration to support TM1 driven planning workflows, and the Cognos estate was later upgraded to v10, during which teams extensively remodelled SQL Server schemas, ETL processes, and DTS logic to improve data flow and reporting consistency. Governance and operational ownership were formalized under a Head of Business Intelligence who led finance and BI integration efforts and the Master Data initiative. Configuration work focused on aligning reporting catalogs, planning models, and ETL processes to finance and commercial workflows, enabling consolidated reporting across sales, finance, and AR/AP functions.
