Tennant Company Manufacturing 4500 $1.2B United States SAP SAP SuccessFactors Learning Learning and Development 2017 Birlasoft In 2017, Tennant Company implemented SAP SuccessFactors Learning as part of a broader Learning and Development initiative within its global HR program. The SAP SuccessFactors Learning deployment was delivered alongside Employee Central as a core hybrid architecture, and the work was executed with Birlasoft as the implementation partner. Tennant Company SAP SuccessFactors Learning Learning and Development supports HR learning, onboarding and training functions within the wider SuccessFactors HCM roadmap for roughly 4,500 employees across more than a dozen global locations. The implementation was scoped as part of Project Phoenix which targeted Employee Central adoption, LMS integration, recruiting and onboarding updates, and standardized HR processes across 18 countries with data migration activity reported for 12 countries. The deployment architecture centered on a hybrid model with Employee Central acting as the global system of employee and organizational data, and SAP On-Premise retained for payroll and time systems. SAP SuccessFactors Learning was configured as the LMS component within the SuccessFactors suite, aligned to central employee records in Employee Central to drive course enrollment and training records. The program followed an agile iterative methodology with prepare, explore, realize and deploy phases, and the initial release was intentionally limited on employee self service and mobile tasks to simplify adoption. Tennant deferred Time and Attendance and some non US payroll integrations to later phases to reduce scope and stabilize the platform. Integrations were implemented using SAP Cloud Integration middleware formerly known as HCI and SAP Business Integration Builder for mapping between SAP ERP HCM and Employee Central data models. Replication patterns included OData web service calls and CSV templates via the Employee Data Import Export Framework, with downstream interfaces maintained to SAP On Premise payroll, benefits systems and a set of third party recipients. Tennant took primary responsibility for much of the integration work and for mastering SCI and BIB, while Birlasoft provided implementation services and HCM solution design. The team explicitly decided not to pursue ADP integration for non US payroll in this phase and preserved uninterrupted payroll processing through SAP On Premise. Program governance emphasized internal ownership of technical integration and iterative rollout to limit risk, with Tennant shifting integration sequencing to commence when testable data were available. The project concluded on time and on budget, and stakeholders reported integration between SAP On Premise and Employee Central performed better than expected. Reported benefits included more transparent and timely employee data, continued payroll continuity via SAP payroll, and a stable platform intended to enable slower paced adoption of self service and mobile capabilities.
