The deployment was initiated to address recruiting and retention pressures, agile workforce assignments, joint venture staffing complexities, and the need to configure projects with the right skills at the right cost and time within a volatile mining economics environment. The implementation focused on core people analytics modules for headcount reporting, attrition analysis including high performer churn, diversity and inclusion metrics, contractor and external worker classifications, and reusable metric presentations and slideshows to enable storytelling with data. Visier People Analytics was configured to support weekly data loads and iterative data validation workflows, with attention to master data accuracy and the creation of common definitions for attributes such as contractor status and geographic designations. Architecturally the Visier implementation ingested data from a fragmented HR technology landscape, consolidating feeds from six distinct SAP Human Resources systems, one Employee Central SuccessFactors instance, an internal HR database, and an SQL data warehouse into a single analytical layer. The unified dataset enabled standardized headcount reporting and faster aggregation across business units, and the platform was tuned to surface common workforce measures for business unit analysts and HR business partners. Governance and rollout employed a structured change management approach, led by Francesco Turchetti as Global Head of Talent and a small central team responsible for implementation, data governance, and upskilling. Anglo American established a data governance council to reconcile naming conventions and data attributes, nominated HR analytics champions and super users across business units, and ran training and engagement programs in London, Johannesburg, Singapore, and Brisbane. The program planned to expand the team to include a data scientist to accelerate insight generation. Outcomes documented by Anglo American include consolidated common definitions and improved master data accuracy, the ability to aggregate workforce data far more rapidly with routine reporting that previously took days now completed in less than 30 minutes, visibility into attrition of high performers and talent pipeline diversity, and the assignment of a dedicated Diversity and Inclusion resource driven by newly available metrics. The broader rollout strategy is explicit, targeting Visier coverage for all of HR roughly 600 to 700 employees, followed by line managers and then 3,000 to 4,000 employees, while progressively onboarding additional data sources such as performance and talent management, compensation, attendance, safety benchmarks, productivity, and business outcome data.
