In 2019, Mainstream Renewable Power implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as the final pillar in its move to a pure Microsoft cloud enterprise, completing the companys transition in the ERP Financial category. The deployment replaced Microsoft Dynamics AX and was delivered in partnership with DXC Technology, aligning the application with Mainstreams five year Sustainable Digital Transformation program to shift commodity IT functions to Microsoft Azure and SaaS delivery.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations was configured to centralize core financial management and project entity setup, with Mainstream porting historical financial data to Azure to preserve continuity. DXC deployed robotic process automation to accelerate user acceptance testing and to automate day to day administration for Finance and Information Solutions, and the company combined RPA with embedded AI to verify new releases and critical touchpoints across integrated systems prior to upgrades.
The implementation extended beyond ERP Financial core modules into Power Platform integrations, using a Power App to manage desk and parking bookings for hybrid work and prototyping chatbot case resolution to improve user support. Operational coverage included Mainstreams global development and project onboarding workflows where each project is established as a separate legal entity within Dynamics 365 to meet local regulatory and compliance requirements, impacting Finance, IS and project delivery teams across Mainstreams international footprint.
Governance was enforced through Mainstreams Global Development Standard and DXC led automation to reduce manual testing and upgrade risk. The program decommissioned Mainstreams data center, realizing explicit outcomes including annual operating savings of €150,000 and avoided infrastructure replacement costs of €212,000, while contributing to a reduction in IT carbon footprint and earning a 2019 ICMG Zachman Architecture Award for the sustainability and agility of the approach.
