In 2022 Port Taranaki implemented IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management solution, initiating a portwide program to centralize maintenance workflows and asset cost visibility. The IBM Maximo deployment was delivered with Maxpros Australia and targeted both marine and land asset portfolios within the port operations.
The implementation configured IBM Maximo as a computerised maintenance management system, CMMS, embedding preventive maintenance scheduling, work order management, and asset register capabilities. Port Taranaki used IBM Maximo to formalise maintenance processes, capture labour and plant usage patterns, and extend visibility of asset-level cost data across operations.
IBM Maximo was integrated with the ports Oracle FMIS and a bespoke labour and plant usage system to synchronize financial postings and operational usage records. The deployment was rolled out from management through to front line staff, enabling the same asset management workflows to be executed by planners, supervisors, and technicians across land and marine sites.
Governance changes removed paper-based work practices and established system driven work assignment and inspection workflows, shifting maintenance activities from reactive to more proactive regimes. The implementation improved transparency of land and marine asset costs and generated crossfunctional efficiency by linking maintenance execution in IBM Maximo to financial and labour systems.
