Professional Services | 210 | $24M | United States | Rackspace Technology | Onica by Rackspace Technology | Professional Services | 2021 | In 2021, Brave implemented Onica by Rackspace Technology as a Professional Services engagement to operationalize machine learning pipelines that classify websites for browser advertising. The engagement targeted Brave’s machine learning foundation that supports a browser with roughly 30 million monthly active users and more than one million verified publishers, and it centered on moving model creation and deployment into a repeatable cloud pipeline managed by a small internal analytics and DevOps team. Onica by Rackspace Technology deployed its MLOps Foundations architecture to provide consistent, traceable model development, training and deployment workflows. The implementation configured AWS SageMaker for model training, AWS Lambda to invoke Jenkins endpoints, AWS CodePipeline for continuous integration and delivery, AWS CodeCommit as the code repository, AWS Systems Manager for perimeter storage, and Amazon S3 for model training data storage, creating an end-to-end CI/CD pipeline for machine learning. The project was executed on AWS and funded through AWS Jumpstart, with cloud infrastructure reworked to automate training, validation and publishing. Onica optimized an existing natural language processing model to run efficiently in the cloud, and the deployment model was adjusted midstream to support spot instances on an AWS auction service to control infrastructure spend. The automated pipeline also preserved Brave’s privacy intent, enabling stronger models while allowing user data to remain on-device when appropriate. Governance and rollout included a compressed six week delivery window and an accelerated handover, with Onica training Brave staff on the MLOps framework and operational procedures. A new notification and approval process was introduced so the Brave team can review model metrics and accept or reject updates before production deployment, institutionalizing QA gates and traceability into model change control. Outcomes reported by Brave include reducing model training time from several days to six hours, compressing deployment cycles from days to a few hours, completing the engagement ahead of schedule, and lowering infrastructure costs by 50 percent. The implementation strengthened advertising prediction workflows and added formal QA controls to model publishing and operations.

Professional Services | 900 | $500M | Canada | Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Amazon EC2 | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2017 | In 2017, Cando Rail & Terminals implemented Amazon EC2 as part of a broader serverless and cloud-native re-architecture to support its Quasar IoT supply chain platform. The deployment targeted Application Hosting and Computing Services to ingest, process and push IoT sensor data from train carriages through to customers, aligning the Company Application Category Business Function relationship around real-time railcar tracking and shipment monitoring. The implementation combined serverless components with managed compute, employing Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon ECS, Amazon S3, AWS SNS, Amazon Certificate Manager, Amazon RDS and Amazon EC2 to handle ingestion, processing, storage and distribution. Workstreams included infrastructure as code, automation and CI/CD best practices to accelerate change cycles and standardize deployments across the Quasar platform. Onica by Rackspace Technology acted as the SI, conducting an architecture audit and executing an Onica Teams engagement that provided a dedicated cloud team and ongoing operational support. Integrations were explicit, including forwarding existing AWS SNS topics into the new environment to preserve data flows, and coordinating with internal development teams and multiple external vendors to bridge modern AWS services with Cando’s field sensor ecosystem. Governance and operational controls were restructured to consolidate monitoring and alerting from seven or eight separate tools into a unified alarming model, and to implement security and CI/CD controls across the pipeline. Cost governance was addressed through rightsizing and ramp-down strategies in AWS, combined with Onica’s 24x7x365 network operations center for continuous monitoring and iterative optimization. The combined move to a serverless-centric architecture and the use of Amazon EC2 where appropriate resulted in lower costs and reduced latency, improved architecture and security, and more predictable, reliable operations. Explicit outcomes included a reduction in deployment time from 90 seconds to less than two seconds, and an environment positioned to support larger customers and more stable IoT data delivery.

Professional Services | 170 | $30M | United States | Rackspace Technology | Rackspace Analytics and Business Insights | Professional Services | 2020 | In 2020, Surfline implemented Rackspace Analytics and Business Insights to centralize analytics and operational insight for its global surf forecasting and content operations. The deployment is classified under Professional Services and runs on AWS public cloud platforms to support cloud native analytics pipelines and automated infrastructure management. Working with Onica by Rackspace Technology, the engagement focused on enabling data driven surf and marine forecasts and supporting Surfline's streaming coastal HD cam network and editorial workflows. The implementation consolidated forecasting data ingestion, analytics processing, and reporting within Rackspace Analytics and Business Insights, providing a single analytics backbone for forecasting, editorial, and product engineering teams. Configuration and automation included continuous integration and delivery pipelines, infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation, application platform orchestration with AWS Elastic Beanstalk, and configuration management via Chef, all aligned to support frequent deployments and predictable environment provisioning. Operational coverage extended to Surfline engineering and operations responsible for scientific model execution, content delivery, and user facing services, with the Rackspace Analytics and Business Insights environment instrumented to consume high volume telemetry from forecasting models and HD cam streams. Governance emphasized DevOps best practices and integrated development and operations, with Onica by Rackspace Technology introducing CI CD workflows and runbook driven operational processes. Surfline also adopted Rackspace Cloud OpsPilot for 24x7x365 AWS support from certified experts to reduce late night alerts and operational burden. Explicit outcomes reported include automated multiple daily deployments, reduced time and cost to produce surf and weather forecasts, and increased service uptime and reliability by orders of magnitude, achieved through the Rackspace Analytics and Business Insights implementation and ongoing managed cloud operations.
