In 2016 23andMe implemented Oracle NetSuite ERP as its core ERP Financial application and completed a go live at the end of September 2016. The implementation was stabilized by a Senior Accounting Manager who built and led a four person finance accounting team, comprising two senior AP specialists and two senior GL accountants, and acted as system administrator for Oracle NetSuite ERP and Concur.
Configuration emphasized core financial modules and controls within Oracle NetSuite ERP, including accounts payable workflows, general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliation processes, and a formalized month end accrual framework. The team implemented a hard month end close process and documented a BS recon process based on audit standards, and provided training and operational documentation to finance and other business functions on the Oracle NetSuite ERP platform.
Integrations were addressed as part of stabilization work, the organization administered Concur alongside Oracle NetSuite ERP and established remediation for gaps between various systems interfaces. Operational scope centered on the finance organization in Mountain View, CA, with deliverables supporting monthly P&L and balance sheet flux analysis for upper management, preparation and review of quarterly board packages, and coordination of year end audit activities with E&Y.
Governance changes included instituting month end accrual processes, streamlining AP to bring payables current, and formalizing reconciliations and training to sustain the Oracle NetSuite ERP environment. Explicit outcomes recorded during the rollout included stabilizing the implementation, reducing the month end close cycle from 30 days to 15 days, and advancing audit readiness through documented processes and year end coordination.
